Customer Reviews

Comments: These are super comfortable but as with the other reviews, the size is way off! I'm keeping mine but that's because they were on sale and the next size up is not available. I don't think I will be able to wear these for my 50k, but I think they will be fine to train in for shorter distances. Due to the length being a tiny bit too short for my liking I probably won't choose these shoes for lots of downhill running. I think the super cushioned heel is part of what forces your foot forward in these shoes. For reference: I bought these in a 10. My Torin 2.0's are a 9.5, old Intuitions (which are a better length) are also a 10.

Comments: I dreamed of the "magic shoes" that could possibly make me run without so much pain all over my lower body. I've suffered from toe pain, bunions, sesamoiditis, ball of foot pain, neuroma, arch pain, plantar fasciitus, heel pain, achilles pain, as well as IT band, hip and chronic low back pain. I've tried all types of shoes from all kinds of brands for the past 10 years, and I just thought I could never find any shoes that fit my feet or make me run without pain. Everyone told me that I was one of the very rare people who are absolutely not built to run. Well, that was true only  until Altra was born! This is the first pair of shoes I ever wore that doesn't bother my bunions because of its wide forefoot, doesn't bother my neuroma because of its excellent cushioning, and the zero drop is wonderful for my achilles and low back problems. I can't go back to any other shoes!

Comments: Well, here is something to keep in mind when ordering these shoes online, and it might explain the inconsistency so many people are experiencing in terms of sizing. I ordered half a size up in the Olympus after reading all of the reviews. I usually wear 9.5 and ordered 10s. Just got them yesterday. I tried on the right shoe and got really excited - it fit perfectly. I put on the left shoe so I could walk around in them, and discovered it was so small it felt like a 9. My toes bunched up in the front and I couldn't even walk in it comfortably. The tag on both shoes says 10, but the right shoe looks like it's almost an inch bigger than the left. This would have been my first pair of Altras, and I've heard such great things, but after this I will only buy them in a store after trying them (both) on.

Comments: These shoes feel wonderful, but honestly I had to send them back twice....I read everyone's reviews, decided to go to a running store to try them on before I ordered. They were a newer version of the Olympus, so I didn't think that mattered. I ordered a size 7 which fit well in the store (that's what I wear in Hokas, but I wear a 7.5 in Brooks/Asics/Mizunos). They came....SUPER SHORT. My toes were all the way at the very end. I sent them back and ordered a size 8.....HUGE. What in the world? Guess I will send them back and get a size 7.5 and hope for the best.

Comments: I usually order an 8.5 when ordering online. Seem to be ok for me. Order 8.5 in HOKA too. I don't think they seem short, but maybe it's because the toe box is so roomy. Overall, they are ok. May try another pair/style or stick with HOKAS, they seem to have more cushioning which seems to help lessen my knee pain.

Comments: I found the sizing inconsistent. I normally take a 9.0 medium width woman's running shoe, and a 9.5 was too short. 10.0 was slightly too long. These aren't for everyone as the zero drop can be hard to get used to and the maximal build cause a whole different set of gait issues if you're not biomechanically efficient. These shoes definitely feel much better on dirt trails than on the road.

Comments: Just reiterating others comments on sizing. I usually wear size 10, went up to 10.5 in hoka stinson, and the 11 in the altra Olympus is too small. Might try the 12 (really the sizing is so off!) but I'm afraid it will be ok in length but too loose otherwise. Also the heel is sort of shallow, doesn't come up very high on the sides and feels a little weird. At least it won't rub your ankle bone.

Comments: Love these shoes they run a full size smaller than regular shoes. I wear a 9.5 regularly but in these a 10.5 they are a but weird when you first out them on but they absorb the shock way better than Asics and Brooks I've worn but not as high and squishy as Hoka I love these. Have yet to try on trail but as great as they feel on pavement I know they'll be nice on a easy trail too.

Comments: I agree the Olympus runs a half size smaller than my Torin. I have a couple of purple toenails to show for it. I am ordering a bigger shoe now. I gradually worked into the Torin over the winter and loved the wide toe box. When I saw the Olympus, I had to try them. I have battled PF for a couple of years and thought the extra cushion wouldn't hurt. I don't know if it is the zero drop and/or the extra cushion or the stretches and foam rolling, but my PF is almost nonexistent. I do like these shoes.

Comments: Amazing shoe! I run in saucony ride, hoka, and altra. Altra hands down my favorite shoe. Personally, I found this style to run 1/2 size smaller than the torin. Overall, I find altra to run 1/2 size smaller than hoka and saucony. I use this for road running and they are amazing. Equal cushion to hoka Kailua however more flexible. Highly recommend.

Comments: I really like these, but I'm going to comment because I want to make a note that if you are looking for a trail shoe that performs well in wet, slick, and muddy conditions these are not going to be it! Otherwise, they are great on trails in general and on the road I wore them for a marathon and they were fantastic.

Comments: I LOOOOOOVE these shoes! They are exactly what I have been waiting for. Zero drop with tons of cushion but not those ridiculous trendy Hoka's that I think feel completely weird. I'm a ChiRunning instructor and absolutely love the feel of the contact with the ground when I run, but I was getting sore in my ankles and achilles from the lack of cushioning in most other zero drop shoes. Yes, obviously, you don't get the same grounded feeling as with the thinner soled shoes, but you do get that fabulous Altra last with the deliciously wide toe box so that your feet can relax and spread out naturally, just as they would if you were barefoot. This is reducing the tension in my feet and ankles and the soreness is finally going away. My feet are getting noticeably stronger as a result. The shoe is still light and pleasantly springy and even though I have very narrow feet and these shoes are very roomy, I like to wear my shoes really lose anyway to encourage my feet to relax and be soft, so the wide Altra last is a huge plus for me. Thank you Altra for creating this wonderful shoe and saving me from having to try those Hokas :). Im ordering a second pair now!
