  • Mizuno Wave consists of an elastic, thermal plastic wave running from the heel to the midfoot, creating an incredibly springy and well-cushioned ride.
  • SR Touch cushioning compound provides resiliency and rebound in the heel for shock absorption.
  • Smooth Ride is a gender specific network of grooves that minimizes the rapid acceleration and deceleration of the foot to create a smooth heel to toe ride.
  • U4ic is a lightweight midsole that provides optimal shock absorption, durability and a resilient ride.
  • Extended Wave Plate in the midfoot is an extension of the Mizuno Wave for increased torsional rigidity between the heel and forefoot.
  • Mizuno Intercool ventilation system in the midsole inhibits humidity buildup to keep feet cool and dry.
  • Gender Engineering utilizes gender-specific attributes such as a wider base in men’s shoes and additional flex grooves in women’s shoes.

  • X10 located in the heel is made of durable carbon rubber for enhanced traction.
  • Blown rubber in the forefoot increases cushioning and responsiveness.
  • Flex Controllers placed in high flex areas on the outsole act as miniature wave plates for increased flexibility and reduced weight.

  • AIRmesh covers the entire upper and provides breathability to keep the foot cool.
  • Printed Overlays on the medial and lateral sides help hold the foot in place.
  • OrthoLite Sockliner is anti-microbial and moisture wicking for a healthy foot environment.
  • Dynamotion Fit creates optimal fit with stretch material in the forefoot and a collar construction that prevents the heel collar from buckling under load.
  • Strobel Last with the upper stitched to full length fabric for a comfortable underfoot feel.

Customer Reviews

Comments: I've worn the Mizuno Wave Riders since 2010. The 17s are wide enough but there is this weird plastic coating that cuts the top of my feet (where the toes connect to the foot). It's incredibly painful. I had the shoes stretched by a podiatrist and that helped but the shoe will cut me on longer runs. I hope the 18s don't have this problem.

Comments: Nice light feel, great color (I got the mint). Overall good shoe except for the crease issue. Cut the tops of my feet on 1st run and 2nd run. Will have to switch to another until this issue is remedied.

Comments: I have the wave rider 15 and 16, feet great, even with orthotics. I am a size 39 euro to 39.5 (8-8.5). I had always purchased 8.5, but this time the 8.5 is not true to size, but too long. I realized this too late to return and now have a shoe that is half a size too big. These also just feel very different. I have to find an alternate brand until the next round.

Comments: They almost have this right. Went from 4mm and 8 mm drops. Took a few runs...but they feel nice. I do get that crease issue that pinches my toe...caused a blister on toe...feels worse when walking then running. Shoe obviously has flaw with this crease complnt.Howver...the the lightness and firm fast feeling is awesome. I went up 1 whole size.

Comments: I have the 16s and liked them. It was time for new shoes, so I decided to go with the 17s. I love how light they were, and they felt great..except for one major thing. The tops of my toes were cut up within the first three miles from the part where the shoe tongue connects with the rest of the shoe. 2nd run, same thing. I had to change to a different shoe.

Comments: I have run in the wave riders for the last couple of years but this model is different. The toe box is roomier (I had to go down a half size)but the lace structure cuts into the top of my foot. Had to change to another shoe.

Comments: I purchased the 16's last year and LOVED them. Order the 17's in the same size. They run extremely narrow I would recommend ordering a wide or up a half size. Sent these back and ordered the 16's still LOVE them.
