INTRODUCTION

The 870 v3 is a moderate feature, moderate support shoe designed for daily training and high mileage.

CUSHIONING

  • ABZORB is a full-length, top-of-the-line midsole foam for great durability and improved cushioning.

MIDSOLE

  • RevLite is an innovative foam compound that provides lightweight, responsive cushioning.
  • Internal Shank is a thermoplastic unit in the midsole that provides torsional rigidity.
  • Medial Post consists of higher density foam in the midfoot that works to correct over pronation.

UPPER

  • Open Mesh covers the majority of the upper for lightweight breathability.
  • Synthetic Overlays are strategically placed to wrap the foot for a secure fit.
  • No-Sew upper materials are soft, supple and hold the foot securely on the platform.
  • Traditional Sockliner provides additional underfoot cushioning.
  • Strobel Last with the upper stitched to full length ABZORB foam, for enhanced cushioning and a soft underfoot feel.

OUTSOLE

  • Blown rubber in the forefoot increases cushioning and responsiveness.
  • Ndurance is a highly durable carbon rubber located in the heel and the lateral side of the outsole.

LAST

  • PL-1 Natural is a running-specific last with a standard heel and forefoot width and a standard toe-box height. This last is built to closely follow the natural shape of the human foot.

Comments: This is a very comfortable and lightweight shoe. The upper is great. The sole is soft and flexible, it reminds me of nike frees, but with some "support". It doesn't seem like the shoe will hold up past ~350 miles. I've got a 100 miles on them now and they still feel good. All in all, a good buy.

Comments: Got this shoe to complement my NB1260v3's. Like the light weight, ample cushioning, heel drop, color and fit of the shoes. I have "B" width feet, pronate moderately and run about 25-30 miles a week. These definitely run narrow for a "D" width. Heel fit is great-no slip! I also have a flat arch, but feel that these shoes give me good support on the medial side. Will probably use for shorter/tempo runs.

Comments: I've been a runner for over four decades, so I have a bit of experience with running shoes. Now that I run "midfoot style," I've had to select midfoot running shoes. So when the Vibram Five Fingers or the NB Minimus offer too LITTLE support, go up a bit to the N.B. 870...it's perfect! I used the N.B. 890 for a while and I like the 870 slightly more, probably because of the support for the mild pronator. I've done repeat miles in this shoe and it's just fine, although for speedwork, I prefer the awesome N.B. 1400. So yes, this is an endorsement.
