While the Zante is best suited for faster paced running, especially during uptempo runs, more efficient runners may also find this shoe suitable for daily training. A cushioned yet responsive ride makes the Zante a great option for a variety of training needs. From long runs to intervals, the Zante provides a cushioned performance option.
Overall, the Fresh Foam Zante delivers a semi-firm, responsive ride mixed with plenty of versatility. Although the fresh foam midsole has been stripped down, the overall ride seems to be slightly softer then the original fresh foam 980. Utilizing a soft heel and a firm midfoot/forefoot, this shoe seems to provide a slightly different feel depending on the individuals footstrike. Regardless, the Zante offers a surprising amount of cushion that both heel and forefoot strikers will be satisfied with. As a runner goes from mid stance to toe off, the shoe provides a smooth transition that can be easily attributed to the newly designed toe spring. While the Zante performed well at a variety of paces, the shoe shined at faster speeds. As pace increased, transition from foot strike to toe off felt even more effortless.
A slightly wider fitting heel fit was noted but did not seem to cause heel slip.
A snug mid-foot wrap creates optimal lockdown for a more racing flat type feel.
The width of the forefoot was medium, leaving sufficient room for standard size feet to wiggle toes.
A slightly lower fitting toe box was noted but sizing up was not needed.
