Asics Gel Noosa Tri 8 Product Review

Short Take

Lightweight and responsive, the Asics Gel Noosa 8 is a flashy option for the slight overpronator seeking some flair for training or race day.

Big Updates

  • Improved Fit: Thinner and more flexible overlays better accommodate the shape of the foot for a less constrictive fit.
  • Smoother Ride: The new Dynamic DuoMax design introduces a two layer midsole for support that doesn’t get in the way.
  • Reduced Weight: We measured a small decrease in weight, down to 9.9 oz in a Men’s size 9 and 8.8 oz in a Women’s size 8.

Road Test

There’s a reason we don’t give awards for craziest colorways here at the ‘house: up against the Gel Noosa Tri, other shoes just don’t stand a fighting chance. And though these aesthetics aren’t for everyone, Asics’ psychedelic tri-inspired wonder is sure to turn a fair share of heads.

But as they say, you can’t judge a shoe by its wild looks and rainbow laces. The Noosa Tri 8 is a solid option for the slight overpronator seeking a performance trainer or a long distance racer. The ride is smooth and responsive through toe-off, and those who need it will appreciate the softer cushioning under the heel.

The upper features a super breathable mesh around the toebox, a big plus for runners in warm climates or those who need quick water drainage. On the flip side, a pair of thick socks may be necessary for winter running. The inside of the upper uses minimal stitching to limit friction on the foot while running, though it’s not quite a fully seamless design.

Runners Say

“The Noosa 8 is noticeably firmer than a typical Asics shoe. That’s not necessarily a bad thing – it gives this shoe a responsive, performance oriented feel.”

“They brought back the kangaroos. ‘Nuff said. In all seriousness though, the Noosa Tri 8 is a great option for someone looking to add some fun to their run.”

“The support in this shoe isn’t substantial – good for neutral runners and slight overpronators. Moderate to severe overpronators may want to reserve the Noosa 8 as a race day option.”
