Built for long distance, all mountain performance, the Salomon XT Wings 3 is a serious shoe for serious trail running.
In a trail running world where low profile is quickly becoming the norm, the XT Wings 3 remains built atop a fairly traditional geometry with a 9mm heel-to-toe differential and higher stack. In addition to the medial post for overpronation support, this cushioned design is ideal for long distance trail runs, where increased impact protection is essential.
We found the moderately lugged outsole to offer solid traction on a variety of terrain types, most notably on hardpack and somewhat technical dry trails, but also good on wet and soft ground as well. Thanks to the bi-directional lug pattern, our testers felt sure-footed and confident on both climbs and descents, experiencing little to no slippage in either situation.
The upper, like the rest of the shoe, is meant for comfort over long periods of wear. Salomon added welded overlays to reduce stitching within the shoe for fewer irritations while running, and an accommodating yet secure fit means the foot isn’t crammed into the shoe. The upper also comes loaded with trail specific details such as a massive toecap for protection, a gusseted tongue to keep out debris, and a lace garage to make sure nothing gets snagged on trail hazards. Salomon has left no stone unturned in order to ensure nothing prevents you from dominating the mountains.
The XT Wings 3 is built for day-long trail runs. Delivering cushioning, a bit of support and a comfortable fit, this shoe has everything a runner needs to go test themselves against the mountain.
The traction is great for most trail types, though I'd be cautious over the most technical or loose terrain.
This shoe is packed with trail-ready features. Every detail has been thought out to ensure a hassle-free trail run.
