Customer Reviews

Comments: This has been my go-to shoe for a few years now whether local trail cruising or running up Whitney.  No, it doesn't do as well off-trail as the Soft Ground variant, but it's not supposed to.  This shoe shines in what it was made for.  The fit is spot-on, the protection is there (Kilian ran and won HR100 in these...), and it's made for bombing up and down mountains.  I'm glad to see that Salomon has slowly reinforced the fabric mesh over the years, as that was typically the only weak point of the shoe for me.  Unlike other shoes I've tried, it fits like a sock and your foot goes and stays exactly where you put it.  It's a solid confidence-building shoe for those looking to fly up and down mountains.

Comments: I normally wear a size 10.5 but found the 10 to be the best fit in this shoe. Size 10 is 239 grams/8.45 oz. The fit is like a dream - fits better than anything I have.  My shoes are usually Brooks Launch or Hoka Clifton.  S-Lab Ultra Sense 5 is a mesh and I find that sand will come through.  It was obvious within 100 meters of my first run that these shoes are not for paved roads as there is little cushion - certainly a big switch from Launch and Clifton.  I also found that the ProFeel Film did nothing to reduce feel of stones on gravel roads or trails.  I run 80% trails and lately 50mpw.  I was hoping the Sense 5 would be my trail racing shoe but after running in them 5 times I've decided they aren't for me.  I find them with too little cushion to consider even for a short run on the roads, to sensitive to anything that has gravel or roots, and the mesh lets in too much sand on trails. To me this would be a great shoe to run on a track.  I really wanted to like this shoe because of the fit but they are going back thanks to the great return policy at RW.
