Customer feedback

Comments: As someone who moved from the West coast to VT, I have been learning on the job with regard to what will keep me warm for winter running in VT (and MN). My runs are typically in the 1 to 2 hr range so I need clothes to keep me warm at the start and also to prevent overheating later on. Over the past few years, I have tried a number of products for my legs. The CWX insulated tights do a great job of keeping me warm down to zero degrees (F), but when I run from my place of work, I don't necessarily want to be roaming the halls pre/post run in full resolution (nuff said). So I have been looking for a more modest running pant that would keep me warm, especially in the wind, and also not feel cumbersome during the run. The North Face Winstopper hybrid pants are superb for this purpose. I have been running in weather ranging from 2 to 40 degrees F in total comfort. Even at the higher temps, I don't overheat as these breathe so well. At near 20 degrees and below, I would recommend a windstopper brief under these. But at 20 degrees and up you are good with just a pair of briefs and the pants (and of course you could always add some tights under for really frigid subzero weather if needed). They are ultra light and you can hardly feel their weight (no chafing or resistance of any kind during the run). I had looked all over the internet for other reviews on this product prior to purchasing and was extremely surprised to fine none. So here it is folks, don‚t overlook what I consider to be one of the best pieces of winter gear you can have in your arsenal.

As an aside, I have also been using two North face tops during these runs as well. The ∏ zip Momentum and the Windstopper hybrid full zip. The Momentum is also a great piece in weather ranging from upper 20s to upper 30s, you can wear this with just a sleeveless technical shirt underneath. From say mid upper 20s  to 10 degrees I find that this top, paired with the Mizuno breath thermo stretch does the trick. As for the Windstopper full zip, I have used it with the Mizuno breath thermo stretch down to zero degrees and was comfortable. On particularly windy days below 10 degrees I will go with Mizuno breath thermo stretch for base, north face impulse ∏ zip for midlayer, then the windstopper full zip for outer. Virtually unstoppable combo that will keep you comfy on long runs. Last, the impulse top is also great for the fall, from say low 30s to upper 40s.

I am always shocked that the staff at our local North Face store has no idea what pieces in their store are good for certain running conditions. As a self admitted gear head, my opinion is that North Face makes some of the very best winter running pieces. They keep my running addiction alive and well all through the winter.

Last thought...I'm 6'1", 170 lbs; I ordered the medium pant and feel they are a bit short for my build, but are still fully functional...i just like to have extra fabric so the bottom of each leg pools a bit on my shoe...
