Customer Reviews

Comments: This review is only based on trying them on for a short period - I ended up returning them in favor of the Saucony Fastwitch. They fit great, are super lightweight, but the forefoot sole did not appear durable at all. I know it's a racing shoe, but there is no rubber sole on the forefoot. I would like to get several races out of these shoes, and I had my doubts about them lasting through more than a few races.

Comments: This hyper speed series is simply the best road shoe ever made. The 6mm drop is perfect for mid/forefoot strike yet has enough of a drop to give calves relief for long miles. The width is also generous for longer runs. The cushion feels like a cross between a racing flat and a lightweight trainer. This shoe works for everything from 5k to marathon. It will be greatly missed so I stocked up and hope they will reissue this shoe in a couple years. I've never worn anything else that compares.
From: Ed, WI, USA

Comments: I raced about 10 5k's, a half marathon, and a 10k in these as well as the majority of my speedwork. I have almost no complaints about this shoe. Very light and fast, and a low heel stack height, but not too low. The journey has been good with these and I will probably buy another pair. The only issue I had was a bit of friction on the top of my foot when I dont wear socks. I dont know if this was because of me or the shoe, but regardless, I really enjoyed this shoe.
From: Nick, Columbus, GA

Comments: Super great fast feeling shoe. I have been using Fastwich 4's and Green Silence but in my opinion these are far superior. Light, fast, my feet and legs remain fresh after a long run. Perfect!
From: Scott, Cincinnati, OH

Comments: Perfect Shoe! Picked these up for training for a late October Marathon.  Did a 25 miler in them, and found my feet to be well supported.  I like feeling the road under my feet, and appreciate a minimalist approach. These shoes provide that.  Also, these shoes are taking off close to 5 ounces of weight from my traditional shoes, which is going to save me 9000 lbs of extra weight lifting my legs and feet would have had to accomplished during the Marathon.

Comments: I bought these shoes a while a go and now I am on my 2nd pair. I am so happy with these shoes. I am heavy runner, so these shoes help with pounding. I would also like to note that they help you hit your forefoot better. I am a big fan of Ryan Hall.

Comments: Bought these shoes to transition from the Asics Gel Blur33, trying to lean towards a minimalistic approach, and maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!! I wasn't wrong!!! This shoes kick butt!!! Put 4 miles the first day that I wear them and 0 cares were given, smooooth run and no pain or soreness at all. I felt like running barefoot on a cloud of unicorns or something even more majestic. While it is true than in the outside they seem smaller than my GB33, they fit quite comfortable, no issues at all. I'll be posting the progression of this beautiful shoes by Asics.

Just love them!

Comments: I came to this shoe from the Saucony Kinvara 2. This shoe fits much better than the Kinvaras; much more forefoot room. Feel light and fast on my feet and don't lose their performance over time (I have around 400 miles on them and they still feel great). My only two complaints are 1) the colors are atrocious for this shoe, why couldn't Asics have gone with the traditional white/red like they did for the Hyperspeed 4? and 2) there are some sort of drain/ventilation holes on the bottom of the shoe that make running in wet weather a little annoying because even in the smallest puddle these holes let water into the shoe. Otherwise, this is a solid shoe, well worth it.

Comments: You guys complaining about wet feet when you run in the wet??? C'mon..these shoes are vented on the bottom..of course they will let water in. I know all of you guys should probably care less about getting your socks wet and more about what a fantastic shoe this is. Sorry to be on you guys but we do run in pretty much any condition don't we? Really good shoe..wet or dry. Ryan Hall's choice for London 2012!

Comments: I do a majority of speed work...sprint drills and mileage under 5 miles per training session. My previous training shoes were the ASICS Speed Star 5s, which I loved, but these are even better! The Gel Hyper Speed 5 is extremely light, and molds to the foot like a glove. I highly recommend this model...great shoe, great company.

Comments: I bought these for racewalking (not the full Olympic style, but let's call it a fitness version).  So I was looking for a stable, pretty straight lasted shoe, very flexible, with only a slight heel to forefoot drop in sole thickness.  The Hyperspeed 5's seem to fit the bill perfectly.  They keep my feet rolling flat and parallel to my stride all the way through my steps.  They also offer enough cushioning (firm, not squishy) to allow me to go 8 miles without any discomfort.  Only complaint - the forefoot needs the same hard wearing rubber sole layer as on the heel as they look like they'll wear very quickly.

Comments: The hyper speed 5 is as nice additon to have on speed work days. The design is awesome. I just ran mile repeats in them and my feet were singing afterword. Definitely a good buy!

Comments: Extremely light and flexible, well ventilated, and a good looking shoe to boot; this is a great racing flat for racing 5 and 10k's (perhaps longer). The Hyper-Speed 5 features a fantastic sole pattern for racing on the roads. With exceptional forefoot flexibility and a low 6 mm heal-to-toe drop, this is a great shoe for mid-foot strikers. Appear to be very well designed/built. I have only two caveats: First, this is a relatively narrow shoe (typical of Asics' high-end racing flats). These shoes are obviously targeted at elite runners (or others with relatively  narrow feet). Second, they do run a half size short ("shoefitr" is correct), so order up a half size. And, yes, the laces are strangely a bit short (especially if you have a wide foot).

Comments: I spoke too soon on a couple of points. I ran over about 30 yds. of damp grass, not soaked ground, just damp
grass. The forefoot of my socks got soaked very quickly. This was extremely uncomfortable & quite disappointing. The good news is that the moisture vacated the shoes fairly quickly. I may plug those holes up with some silicone if I find this happening again. Also, I have picked up a couple of pebbles. I never noticed until the next day when putting the shoes back on. Another thing I should point out is that these shoes run small. I'm a 10.75 so I wear an 11. You should plan on these running a half size

Comments: I probably made the wrong choice in shoe to transition to a more minimalist ride from the Nike Lunar Elite 2 but it may be to soon to tell. While the Hyper Speed does have forefoot cushioning, it is noticeably narrower than the insole. On my foot, this causes the "knuckle" of my big toe to strike with very little padding. I do not have wide feet.I generally use heel-lock lacing & this shoe does have the eyelets available for this method. The problem is, there isn't enough lace available to use it. Laced for a heel-lock, I'd have to cinch my feet down far too tightly & use tweezers to get them tied.  The laces should be about 6" longer or just don't tease me with the extra eyelet. Yes, I bought longer laces but I shouldn't have had to.The tongue bunches up lengthwise. I have to pick thru the laces to flatten it out or it becomes uncomfortable on the top of my foot. I wish it were attached to the inside of the shoe at the sides. These shoes are EXTREMELY lightweight & roomy in the toebox. The heel of the sole does not flare back at all & this keeps me from reverting to a heel strike when I lose focus/get lazy. The heel drop is perfect for my gait. At 6 mm, it's very slight & feels like nothing at all when running. These are really good looking shoes & appear to be well constructed. The upper is very well ventilated & comfortable.I've seen reviews of the Hyper Speed 4 which noted water leaking into the shoe through the holes in the sole. I ran, a couple of days, on wet roads & got no water into my shoes far enough to reach my socks. I also have not picked up any pebbles as others have noted.I'm okay with this shoe, for the price & look, but I probably won't use them as a trainer as I was hoping to do.
