For a near barefoot experience that brings the runner close to the ground, the Altra Samson has no cushioning and an extra-firm ride.

The Altra Samson is a near-barefoot shoe that brings you low and level to the ground. The 0mm drop encourages a more forward footstrike, and the siped rubber outsole provides good grip on hard surfaces. A thin insole gives a touch of underfoot cushioning, and can be removed for a much closer feel for the ground.

Customer Reviews

Comments: The tread design is definitely for the road so no venturing off-road with these shoes. I have had these shoes for over a year now and they have been very useful to building up to minimal shoe running and a good alternative to the 5-finger shoes since they do not fit my toes right. They do tend to sound a little loud with a "slap" while landing but it's not a big deal.
From: David, Danville, PA

Comments: Light, a bit loud but overall a good shoe. I found it even nicer after taking out the insole. The wide toe box is nice but it can also feel clunky.
From: Benjamin, New York, NY, USA

Comments: I ordered these shoes a 1/2 size small, as suggested, and had to send them back because they were about a 1/2 size too small. Now they're out of my size. Other than the fact that they were too small, I really liked them for road running. Very light and flexible, with a very modest amount of cushion. And, of course, zero drop.
