The Brooks Defyance 2 is a moderate featured neutral shoe designed for runners with neutral pronation or slight under pronation (supination). This shoe is engineered as an everyday training shoe and has a semi-curved shape.

cushioning
Hydroflow ST is located in the heel and is cushioning device which consists of a chamber filled with viscous fluid. Hydroflow ST is designed to attenuate shock, dampen impact forces and provide added heel stability. Forefoot Hydroflow is located where the metatarsal head region of the foot rests in the shoe. Forefoot Hydroflow is designed to attenuate shock and dampen forces.

midsole

BioMoGo is Brook's premium midsole material. BioMoGo is designed to offer resilient cushioning and extends the full length of the midsole. BioMoGo is also environmentally friendly, as it will biodegrade 50 times faster in a landfill compared to traditional foam midsoles. DRB Accel is located at the bottom of the midsole in the midfoot. DRB Accel is an injected thermoplastic polyurethane unit which is intended to balance support and torsional rigidity with responsiveness for smooth and fast heel-to-toe movement. Stable Pod Configuration is a midsole/outsole design pattern intended to set the foot up for an efficient, balanced position from heel to toe. The focus of this design is on stability and responsiveness.

Element Mesh is a moisture-managing, breathable mesh that covers large expanses of the upper. Synthetic Overlays are strategically located with the purpose of providing a secure fit. Element Linings lie along the underside of the upper to aid in moisture transfer and comfort. Internal Support Saddle is located in the midfoot with the purpose of providing a more secure midfoot fit. Engage Sockliner Cushole S-257 Last utilizes a full length layer of advanced foam to provide cushioning and flexibility.

outsole
HPR Plus is a form of high abrasion-resistant rubber and is located in the heel. Blown Rubber is located in the forefoot to provide responsiveness and flexibilty. Stable Pod Configuration is a midsole/outsole design pattern intended to set the foot up for an efficient, balanced position from heel to toe. The focus of this design is on stability and responsiveness.

Comments: I'm VERY, VERY disappointed with this shoe. The original Defyance was great! I got 420 miles in them. The Defyance 2 seems bulky and the toe box is huge! The cushioning, or lack there of, caused shin problems I've never experienced before. I've gone to the Nike Vomero 4. I'm 6'1", 195 pounds and run 30-35 miles per week.

Comments: I need a well cushioned shoe or I suffer from knee pain after a run. I bought the Defyance 2 and really like the ride. They are a little narrow, but the fit is comfortable and the cushioning  is superb. I bought a pair of Asics Kayano 15's because they were supposed to be the Cadillac of cushioned running shoes, but I went back to the Defyance 2 after only one run in the Asics. The Kayano 15's made my knees swell and hurt.

Comments:Love this shoe. I was a fan of the Brooks Radius and hadn't found anything that fit as well. I'm a 47 year old male, high arches, 175 lbs, needing a neutral, high cushion shoe. I had run in the Brooks Glycerin, which is a higher priced full feature shoe, but I like the Defyance 2 even better. I consider it a great value and found it feeling much lighter than the Glycerin as well. I have less than 100 miles on them so far so will have to update regarding durability. I did replace the insole to gain somemore forefoot cushioning.
