introduction
This racing shoe from Brooks is a moderate featured shoe designed for mild to moderate pronation. The Racer ST 4 is built for longer distance races (1/2 marathon- marathon) but is also light enough for 5k and 10k. It has a semi-curved shape.

cushioning
Hydroflow ST is located in the heel and is cushioning device which consists of a chamber filled with viscous fluid. Hydroflow ST is designed to attenuate shock, dampen impact forces, and provide added heel stability.

midsole

Diagonal Rollbar (DRB) is located at the midfoot and is a dual density BioMoGo construction which is desgned to reduce excess pronation. DRB Accel is located at the bottom of the midsole in the midfoot. DRB Accel is an injected thermoplastic polyurethane unit which is intended to balance support and torsional rigidity with responsiveness for smooth and fast heel-to-toe movement. Stable Pod Configuration is a midsole/outsole design pattern intended to set the foot up for an efficient, balanced position from heel to toe. The focus of this design is on stability and responsiveness.

upper
Air Mesh covers the upper and is a breathable mesh that allows heat to escape. Microfiber and Synthetic Overlays are strategically located with the purpose of providing a secure fit. Traditional Sockliner Cushole S-257 Last utilizes a full length layer of advanced foam to provide cushioning and flexibility.

outsole
HPR Plus is a form of high abrasion-resistant rubber and is located in the heel. Blown Rubber is located in the forefoot to provide responsiveness and flexibilty. Stable Pod Configuration is a midsole/outsole design pattern intended to set the foot up for an efficient, balanced position from heel to toe. The focus of this design is on stability and responsiveness.

Comments: Nice ride... raced Marine Corp Marathon in them. The could be a little bit lighter but still almost perfect, if there is such a thing. If Brooks found a way to put supplemental cushioning in the forefoot without adding weight, they would be even better (not that it's needed for the short stuff). The DRB provides the perfect amount of support a low/normal arch needs in a long distance racing flat without being overly controlling. I previously used the Saucony Fastwitch and prefer these. The upper is awesome too. The lacing and snugness felt great for the long haul.

Comments: Very light and comfortable. Just used them during a half marathon and they held up great. Lighter than I'm used to but held up well. Not sure if I will be able to put a lot of mileage on them. I used different insole and they felt better. I love Brooks.

Comments: An absolutely fantastic shoe. It's cushioned enough to withstand the most ridiculously long tempo workouts and light enough to use on intervals and 5k races. This is my favorite road racing and workout shoe ever. The newest one has a much more open toe box that took some getting used to, but I'm still very happy with it.
