Customer Reviews

Comments: This is a good shoe. It fits my low/med volume wide forefoot feet well. It works well on both roads and trails and provides good feel while being reasonably supportive. And the outsole is grippy. A couple of things to note: 1. I sized up 1/2 size and this shoe is probably a bit roomier than the Asics it replaced. I would not size up a full size. 2. The heel cup is quite deep. It works well with my bulky aftermarket insoles/orthodics. With the standard insoles, the heel cup is too deep and cuts into my Achilles and my ankles.

Comments: I've had about 4 pairs of this shoe. If you are running in something like a Brooks Ravenna or an Asics Gel Kayano and are looking to do more trail running, I HIGHLY suggest this shoe. It handles road-trail-road sections like a champ. Its soft, its light and its cheap. Seriously, its $100 dollars, and beats up on shoes well above its price point. Montrail makes some great shoes, and this one is no exception.

Comments: I have enjoyed this shoe a whole heck of a lot since I got them a few weeks ago. Its light, it's soft, the posting isn't noticeable, and the toe box is wide, allowing for good toe splay. This shoe is a great hybrid shoe. It handles the road well, but does well on rolling downhill. It is grippy enough so that you are secure on technical uphill and downhill, but not so grippy that you cant pivot on switchbacks on technical downhill. I've ran for up to about 4 hours in this shoe and really tried to beat it up on the downhill. Tread is holding up fine. Overall a great update from Montrail. And its only 100 bucks!!! I will absolutely get this shoe again.

Comments: This is the best update from Montrail in years. The Fluid Balance replaces the Fairhaven, which really worked well for me but had an upper I was less than happy with. This shoe features the same midsole and outsole of the Fairhaven with a much improved upper that wraps the foot and breathes much, much better. The improved fit actually improved the responsiveness of this shoe while remaining soft underfoot. Hybrid outsole runs well on pavement from the front door to the trail head and handled a heavy workload in the canyons of sierra's without bashing my toes against the ends or leaving me with blisters. Footbed, like with most Montrail shoes, holds water a little more than I would like when the shoe is wet, but this is consistent with all of the Montrails I have worn recently. I bought a 1/2 size up and it was perfect fit. I would recommend a full size up if you are wearing a superfeet or orthotic. Great shoe!
