INTRODUCTION

The ProGrid Peregrine 2 is a moderate feature neutral trail shoe designed for daily training and high mileage.

CUSHIONING

  • Heel ProGrid Lite is a grid-like foam piece that sits under the heel for lightweight shock absorption.

MIDSOLE

  • SSL EVA is Saucony's premium midsole material for lightweight comfort, rebound and durability.
UPPER
  • Gusset Tongue prevents debris from entering the shoe.
  • HydraMAX Collar Lining cups the heel and provides next-to-skin comfort while wicking unwanted moisture.
  • Anti-Lacebite Pads protect the top of the foot and prevent laces from digging in.
  • Premium Sockliner is a breathable, moisture wicking, anti-odor and anti-microbial Ortholite insole that provides improved step-in comfort with rebound properties.
  • Strobel Last with the upper stitched to full length HRC Strobel Board, for responsive, enhanced cushioning and a soft underfoot feel.
OUTSOLE
  • XT-900 located along the perimeter of the outsole is a carbon rubber material that offers durable traction.
  • External Bedrock Outsole (EBO) is layered between the outsole and midsole and is designed to protect the foot from rocks.
  • High Traction Rubber is a sticky rubber compound that provides excellent traction and grip on various trail surfaces.

Comments: I use these shoes as a daily training averaging 80 to 90 mpw on the roads and the amount of cushion is ideal for non-heel strikers.  The trail outsole delivers excellent traction on slick surfaces and hasn't shown hardly any wear despite my typical abuse.  The extra room in the toe box compared to the kinvara was much appreciated.  The extra weight over other "minimal" shoes isn't a a bother and is in right in line with typical road trainers. I feel that that they are far superior to the kinvara.  Of course for road racing I like the feel of slightly lighter shoe (grid type A5).

Comments: I am training for the Leadman Competition 2012 and was looking for a minimal drop shoe to run the 50 and 100 mile race.  The last 10 months of trail training has been on the Inov8 XTalon 212 and New Balance MT110s.

The first run in the Saucony Peregrine was perfect.  16 mile trail run with 3800 vertical gain and loss.  The shoe fit snuggly, but not too tight and added a great amount of cushion on the landing. I did not notice the additional 3 ounces versus my other shoes. I am excited about these sneakers for the summer.  I would highly recommend for runners that are not looking for a concrete sole in their shoe.  You will still feel the flow of the trail, but not every small rock underneath the foot.

Weekly mileage of about 65-90. Wider front foot base.
