Asics Gel Excel33 2 Men's Shoes Titan/Light/Orange Customer feedback

Comments: The last 3 running shoes I had were Asics DS trainer and they were excellent, comfortable, light and durable. The gel excel are far from being durable, the rubber on the heal wears much faster and the side of the shoes were the Asics logo is got unglued from the side of the shoe in 2-3 places within 3 months of running 30-35 miles/week. I also run with a jogging stroller 1-2 a week and after touching twice the wheel of the stroller by mistake while running, light friction, I have a hole in the front of the shoe on each shoe. I give this shoe ** out of 5

Comments: I've been training for the Boston Marathon in ASICS Gel Blur 2's, but knew that wouldn't be my shoe for the big day. Blurs are too cushioned and heavy for a 26 mile race. So I had been researching what shoe I might bring, and wanted to get them about 4 weeks out so I could test them and break them in. My research pointed me to this shoe as the right mix of cushioning and weight. I finally found them in a store and was able to try them on. Normally, I'm about an 11 or 11-1/2. This shoe was definitely an 11-1/2 for me (so perhaps run a tiny bit small?). So far, I've run in them twice and love them. These will be my marathon shoes!

Comments: On a whim, tried this shoe as it falls under the recommended shoe type for me. Lighter, promotes midsole strike etc. Felt the difference within 1 mi on my usual 12 mi morning run. Not good. Caused knee / hamstring pain quickly, had to stop after 7 miles. Back to the trusty Pegasus, no more experimenting!

Comments: Winner! Asics kept everything that was great about this shoe and fixed the only downside - the mushy ride. Removing the forefoot gel and trimming a couple millimeters off the midsole height have given the second version the responsive ride lacking in the first. The ~1oz. weight loss is a welcome change too. If I could have only one shoe for all of my training this would be it. I'm a bit cheezed off Asics kept the same MSRP despite stripping some technology and material but price aside, it's a great update.
