Brooks PureFlow 2 Men's Shoes Orange/Grey/Silver Customer feedback

Comments: Just got back in to running after some years off and these are the first Brooks running shoes I have purchased. Must say I was a little leery from the other comments of disappointment. These shoes are the lightest and most comfortable running shoes I have ever run in. I normally take a size 10 but needed an 11 for the PF2 - sized small?? The offset lacing was weird at first but I did get used to it. Only have run in them for one week and so far so good. The bottoms seem a little soft so I don't know how many miles I will get out of them.

Comments: I put in 50+ miles in these and had to return them due to ankle pain. It felt like the soles caused my right ankle to roll out. I got the Pureflow 2 because they discontinued the Green Silence which I had been running in for a couple years without a problem. I do mostly 8 to 12 mile runs 5 days a week. The days I wore my Green Silence I had no problem but the days I wore the Pureflow 2 after about a mile into my run my ankle would hurt. You can also feel that annoying pod on the outside of the foot and that may have been causing me problems as well.

Comments: After loving my first two pairs of Brooks PureFlow and PureConnect, I was really looking forward to the PureFlow 2. Unfortunately, a huge disappointment! Although I got the same size as I usually take in Brooks, the PF2 fits completely differently, particularly in the toe box. Must be something to do with the offset lacing, which seemed like a good idea, but doesn't seem to work well. After 0.5 mile, I couldn't feel my toes in either foot. The shoes don't feel right and obviously I can't handle having circulation to my toes cut off. They are going back today. I may try to find a pair of PureFlow 1s...

Comments: Disappointed!!! I had 3 pair of the older version, I really like that model. This one, with the new assymetrical lace is horrible, it hurts my foot. Please, BROOKS MAKERS, keep on making the older version! The older makes me feel like I'm running with socks, real confortable, light, and perfect cushion. That's why I'm buying another pair of the older version.

Comments: Just picked up a pair of these locally and since I never wore the originals don't know how they compare but these feel great on my feet. The one thing I see that you could modify in the future (and I might) is do away with (cut out) the stretchy strap over the top of the foot. I'll see how it goes.

Comments: I loved the original Pureflow and eagerly waited for two months for the new model to arrive. However, I was very disappointed when I ran in the Pureflow 2 for the first time. The heel fit more loosely than the original and when I put the laces in the rear holes to try to lock down the heel, I had irritation on the top of my foot due to the asymmetrical lacing. After two more runs with the same foot discomfort, I'm sending them back for another pair of the original Pureflows. I'm thankful that Running Warehouse allows exchanges. Hopefully Brooks will remove the asymmetrical lacing from their shoes. All of the Brooks models that I've tried with that lacing system are uncomfortable and put pressure on the top side of the foot. Most other runners that I've spoken to agree and have abandoned Brooks models with asymmetrical lacing.

Comments: Have run extensively in the original PureFlows which I loved, but thought had room for improvement: the toe box is a little small for my foot, the tongue can slip sideways at times, the lacing system wasn't my favorite, and the outsole has lousy traction on wet surfaces.  I was very happy, then, to see that in the update Brooks was keeping the same last in the PureFlow2, but adding a roomier upper, changing the lacing pattern, making the tongue more secure, and reducing the overall weight. Sadly, after trying out the PureFlow2 in my usual PureFlow size 12, and also in an 11.5, they just don't work for me. The size 12 seems too roomy in the upper (and I have a full volume foot) and I can't get the heel locked down, no matter what alternate lacing pattern I use (I've tried several). The asymetrical lacing system makes the upper pucker in weird places and I can't seem to get even pressure in all parts of the laces, so I'm already feeling hot spots. Furthermore, there just seems to be much more length than in the original PureFlows, which is odd since the last wasn't changed. I also ordered an 11.5 and they are much better in terms of locking down my heel and conforming to the top of my foot, but they're just a little too short. Running in either size felt good not great, as in the larger size I could notice my foot moving around too much inside the shoe, and in the smaller size it felt cramped.

The midsole feels fine, as it hasn't been changed, but the outsole is the same slippy outsole from the original model. I really can't see why brooks wouldn't update the outsole as numerous people complained about this problem online. The new upper is nicely constructed, but the material they use doesn't seem to conform as well as the original model. I liken it to the problem with the upper on the Kinvara 3 vs. older models: sure, an improvement maybe from a technical standpoint, but in practice it's just not as comfortable.

I returned both and will stock up on the original model. Bummer. May work for you, just didn't for me.

Comments: I tried these on and took a five mile spin and can say I'm sold. Good cushion and stability and so very smooth. Love the new upper.

Comments: I loved the original Pureflow (logged over 1,000 miles in multiple pairs) and was really excited to run the new Pureflow 2. What a dissapointment! The new upper had a tongue that's snew into place that creates a bulge in the upper that brusied my foot. Steer clear of this shoe if you have a high instep. I'm switching to Kinvara 3's!
