HOKA Mafate 3 Men's Shoes Cyan Customer feedback

Comments: I wanted these to be my second pair of Hokas, but alas it was not to be. I tried on the Bondi's (2) 10.5 and 11, not a good fit, then tried the Stinson Tarmac sized 11 and although a little big, they worked out. I went with 11's in the Mafates and was really surprised at the difference in fit. Very tight on both feet. Toes scrunched up and not all around tight. I still like Hokas and will go with generation 3 and see how it goes.

Comments: This is my second pair of Hoka's. I love these shoes. Best pair of shoes I've worn in 39 years of running. Now the bad: both pair of my Hoka's started falling apart with around 200 miles on them. I'm very disappointed in the way they hold up. I run on a soft dirt trail in these. I contaced Hoka directly and they replaced one pair already. I'm waiting to see if they will replace the 2nd pair. If not, they lost a customer. After ready reviews, I'm close to trying the Altra brand instead.

Comments: Ordered this on sale to see what the hype was all about. I just ordered two more while they were at this price! I am 6' 180, these seem, with 40 miles on them so far, pretty great. I'll know more after my next two events - 24 hour races - next month. My guess is my legs will feel much better in these vs my old Cumulus I've used the last 3-4 years. Very cushioned obviously and that takes a bit of getting used to, but my feet and legs fell much fresher after running in these vs any other shoe I have used. One word of warning: I ordered the grey ones after trying out the green ones and they were noticeably smaller despite them being the same official size (12.5.) I whenI ordered third and fourth I went up 1/2 size just in case, I can run in shoes a little too large easy enough but if they are tight I'll wreck my toenails on runs longer than 12 hours or so. Generally I'm at 50 MPW and do exclusively longer events 100 milers or timed events of 24 hours or more, usually 4-5 per year.

Comments: 4th pair of Hokas- 1st Mafate 3s. Awesome shoe except for a right medial heel failure. The medial heel structure is just mush. This after only a month of use. Will return for another pair- hopefully this is not affecting all the 3s.

Comments: I hate to say it, but I bought a pair of these and they hurt me bad! I have had some issues with my Achilles tendon from a pair of Five Fingers....so I did a lot of research on a shoe that possibly would help that issue. That is what brought me to the Hokas. I had read a few reviews where people had relief of their tendonitis from the Hokas. So I broke down and ordered some from another company, they were the Mafate 2s, they sure do run small, so I had to return them for the Mafate 3s in size 11 instead of 10. I was so excited, since I had limited my running due to the tendon issues. I went out for about a 7 mile run on a mix of trails grass and gravel. At first, they felt like pillows on my feet (heavy pillows) since I normally run in watershoes, they seemed very heavy to me. Expected though. 1/2 way through my run, I could feel something in my left knee....not good! Sad to say, when I was finished , my knee hurt and was swelling!!! What??? All I can say is I ran 3 times total with at least a day between those runs..it has been 2 weeks of NO RUNNING due to swollen knees from the Hoka One One Mafate 3s! No doubt about it! I had read a couple of reviews mentioning something similar. So yeah, got me! I never have knee issues from my running. I made the mistake of drawing some cool Maori graphics on my shoes and cutting off the lower elastic band to allow the narrow toe box more room, so that other company won't take them back, in fact they didn't even respond to me! I just purchased a pair of Montrail Fluid Flex from RunningWarehouse and am awaiting delivery today, I will let you know.......anyone want to buy some cool Mafate 3s......mine are not ugly like most with my Polynesian Graphics:) Beware of Hoka One One, I believe all of the movement in the shoe with the total lack of flexibility in the sole is the cause of my issues, I think the knees take all of that movement!.......expensive 3 runs......lol

Comments: I run the Leadville Silver Rush 50 miles, unprepared. Due to a knee injury, I had to stop training for two months, and run for only 3 weeks before the race. I am 6.7 and 200 pounds. I took a gamble and got the Mafate 3's... and I finished the race with no problems. I am not new to Hokas as I have a pair of Bondi B's. The Mafate 3 shines after 15-20 miles, where it gives more support than even the Stinsons, which are a bit mushy for heavy guys and long ultra distances (although my buddy is as tall and heavy as myself and loves them). I run in 5 fingers up to 10 miles, so I can compare with all shoes across the gamut of protection.

These are heavy shoes, and I was concerned. But I would not trade them for anything else, for my long ultra runs. Love the wide toe box (wider than the Stinsons), and the speed laces. 10 out of 10.
