Comments: These shoes are a pleasant surprise. Years ago I ran in a pair of Montrails and hated them for a host of reasons. But, upon getting into ultrarunning, I figured I'd give these a shot, and they deliver big time. Here's what you get: 1) A balanced ride. These have cushioning, but are not squishy. They also do a nice job of absorbing roots and rocks. 2) An awesome toe box. Ran a 12-hour ultra this past weekend, and after 4 hours or so I was feeling discomfort in my toes. I changed to these, and ran the rest of the way in comfort. 3) Fair grip for all terrain. I would not want to wear this in slick terrain, be it grass, muck or wet rock. It rocks on everything else. These are exceptional all-around shoes. I love my Saucony Peregrines and Kinvaras (the former for trail, latter for road) but for true long-distance, I'll slip these babies on every time... From:
Comments: Seattle based Montrail has been in the trail running shoe business for about 15 yrs. They have a long experienced record for making some of the best trail specific shoes period. the Rockridge is a great example of this tradition. I found them better on the trail under most conditions, in particular the wet rocky and sandy trails around Seattle. Everyone else is playing catch up with companies like Montrail, Patagonia, and North Face who all are making run in the dirt shoes exclusively, not just to have a piece of the ever growing trail running pie.
