Comments: These felt great out of the box: lightweight with plenty of cushioning and thankfully more toe-room than brands like Nike. However, as another reviewer stated, these are not for long runs. I ran a 20-miler on a combination of road and trail and was feeling every pebble by the end of the run. They are a similar style to the Saucony Kinvara, but I doubt the Montrail Fluidflex lasts as long as the Kinvaras. The fluidfoam seems to be compressing quite quickly without rebounding even though I alternate shoes, so that these only get worn every two to three days. The Montrail also has a heel cup similar to that of Saucony Kinvara. However, Montrail left a hard plate in the back of the heel that comes to a point which sticks through the thin material and irritates the top, back of my heel. OUCH. Fix the heel and make these more durable and I think Montrail would have a great shoe. Until then, I recommend trying out other brands.

Comments: I really, really wanted to like these shoes. Out of the box, they were super light and soft. The last seemed a bit curvy, and I typically do better with a straighter last, but I wanted to give them a shot. I liked the idea of a lighter weight, low drop minimal shoe. Bottom line- after any distance greater than about 20 miles, the cushioning compresses so that I can feel every rock underfoot. The heel seems to be too wide, allowing my foot to slide around, which really caused alot of bruising of toenails, and even the balls of my feet were getting sore. My husband had the exact same experience with his. Both of us felt the heel was too loose and our feet slipped around too much. I will go back to the Masochists, which, although not nearly as light amd airy, just WORK. I have run 100 mile races in them and never even think about my feet, which is about the greatest compliment you can give to a pair of shoes.

Comments: I just received these shoes and test drove them at a 5K trail race... at night. The majority of the day consisted of torrential rain and so 90% of the race was mud. There were steep climbs, water crossings, slick bridges, wicked switchbacks, rocky sections and hard gravel paths. These shoes were great. I didn't slip once, and I felt bouncy and light (these shoes feel much lighter than the Masochists). My only concern was how much I could feel through them. They are very soft and squishy, so I think from now on I'll keep them on less technical trails, but these are definitely my new go-to training shoe.
