New Balance MR890 Men's Shoes Sulfur Customer feedback

Comments: Love these shoes.  Best I've ever worn. Bought a second pair. I've run 2 marathons in these shoes and didn't get the same slap foot feel as I've gotten in other shoes. Light weight but still some cushion. Only small complaint is they come untied easily. Triple tie these suckers now.

Comments: I love these shoes, I'm a fairly quick guy running high mileage and these are excellent, miles better than competitors like the pegasus or lunarglide. I find these are durable, bouncey and light, complemented perfectly by the 1400 as a racer. I hope NB doesn't change them much with the V2.
From: David, UK

Comments: I liked these shoes a lot. I've worn these for almost 1,000 and they've felt great. Good for a college cross country runner. Only complaint is that when running on wet surfaces they do not grip very well.

Comments: After reading comments I'm not sure if I'm writing about the same shoe.  I'm 5'9" 150lbs and have worn my 890s for approx 400 miles.  I've done track workouts and marathons in them.  Initially I thought the toe box was too wide, but it caused me no problems.  As in all NB shoes the fit is perfect.  Have never had a blister or hot spot.  They are very soft and comfortable in the uppers.  These have been excellent shoes and I'm ordering my second pair.

Comments: I bought a pair of these shoes online and was so excited about them, only to be disappointed when they came in the mail. I bought them when i was deployed to Iraq. I a decent amount in IRaq about 4 to 6 miles a day. After about a month in these shoes I started to feel like a lump in my socks. Well every time i took my shoe off to check it and pull my socks tighter It would still be there. I came to the conclusion it was not my socks it was the soles of the shoes that felt like i was running on lumps under the balls of my feet. If you are a daily runner these shoes are not for you. Oh yeah, I didn't even wear these every day. I always switched between my other 2 pair of shoes my Viabram Five Fingers and my Zoots..

Comments: Just purchased my second pair of NB 890s after nearly 450 miles on my first pair through the summer months. These are the BEST running shoes I've ever owned in the (shocking I can say this) 33 years that I've been running distance. They felt great from day one and my old pair probably still have life left in them, but I've never kept a pair of shoes for so long and it just seems like it's time to replace them. I'm a neutral, predominantly forefoot runner and these worked for me no matter what conditions I was running in - heat, hills, rain, some dirt trails, mostly pavement, training, racing a half, etc. You can't go wrong.

Comments: I ran with the nike free run and got a stress fracture in my left foot 4th metatarsal. Once I recovered I bought a pair of the Nimbus 12s.. I Wore them for a month or so and decided I wanted a lightweight shoe that I could do doubles in or workouts. I got another stress fracture in the other foot. I am not a fan of these shoes. Not much support at all.

Comments: Purchased these shoes back in May, 2011. Recently switched from heel strike to midfoot strike. Have less than 140 miles on them and the soles are worn down; much more than one would expect after only 140 miles. Most shoes have lasted in excess of 300 miles. I sent the shoes back to New Balance asking them to look them over. They advised that the shoes are not defective. BASICALLY, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE SHOES - AT ALL. I will be returning to purchasing Mizunos, Nikes and Sauconys as they are better quality shoes. I will likely never purchase another pair of New Balance.

Comments: I have mostly worn Asics shoes in the lightweight classification, NB rarely seemed intereted enough in this marginal market to put any effort into sub 12 oz. shoes. The ones they did were awful. The 890 is an average shoe for this sub 10 oz. class.
From: William, Bradford, MA, USA

Comments: This is an absolute fantastic shoe.  This is the first shoe outside of the Asics family that completely works for me!  The lightweight, fit, durability is just right.  I would highly recommend this ride.  Wish there were options in colors but that's a secondary thought.

Comments: The New Balance 890 is a very light running shoe. There are 2 Problems I have found with the shoe.
1. The tongue is very annoying as it keeps sliding down the side of my foot. 2. Beware on wet surfaces as the shoe doesn't grip very well.

Comments: I have always used New Balance in the past. However, for my last half marathon I used another brand. Did not like them as much as NB. I went back to NB to try these shoes and they are amazing. They are light, true to size, and have great cushioning. Great job by NB creating a light cushioned shoe, great as an everyday trainer and race shoe

Comments: 5'8 165lbs. I'm really liking this neutral shoes. So far I've put 20 miles on them. The longest run I've done is 8 miles. This is the best shoe I've found in my past 10 years of running. Light weight, plenty of cushioning, they don't feel bulky. I just bought the black pair too, so I can alternate them. Which is a first for me. I couldn't be happier with the MR890 and plan on running a marathon in them this May.

Comments: Very disapointed. Agree with previous post. The upper is the weak link. Too stiff. Needs to be made of softer, open mesh. The heel collar is too high. It should have more of a performance fit. Too baggy. Something just off on this one. Wasted $100 bucks.
From: Frank, Cincinnati, OH, USA

Comments: Although the shoe fits ok the upper bunches up by the big toe when the shoe flexes and feels very stiff and starchy like a Walmart shoe. The undercarriage feels alright and the geometry of the sole gives a good laydown but I hope the next one has a softer more compliant upper

Comments: Waited in anticipation for 3 months to try this shoe. NB has always been good to me and I'm a lightweight trainer guy. Really looked forward to what NB would offer in this category. I was VERY disappointed. Something just doesn't feel right. I've put 35 miles in them and every run leads to some ache or pain that I never experience when running in my LunarFly. I've had a weird knee pain near the IT Band and shin splints. I rotated my Lunarfly and the 890 to see how I respond. 890= issues....LunarFly= no issues. Again, I had very high expectations but this shoe isn't for me. I'm glad I stockpiled LunarFly's cause it appears I will need them. I'm also going to give the Puma Faas 500's a try. 2 thumbs down on the 890's.

Comments: New Balance hit it out of the ballpark with these. They clearly have invested a lot of research and design effort into these and set a new direction and branch from their traditional line. To me it similar to the branch of innovative Nike lunar models versus Bowerman models. This looks to be the innovative branch of shoes to come from New Balance. They are light, have a full contact, grippy sole, seamless overlays with secure fit. The heel has a inner wedge which I felt slow down pronation on my left foot. I usually use the Mizuno Precision and these definitely had better ground feel for me. I have tried on the Lunar Elites (not ran in them) and they seem very similar, but with a somewhat softer ride. Kudos to New Balance.
