Altra Instinct 2.0 Men's Shoes Bright Green/Green Flash Customer feedback

Comments: First off, I have to say that I really like Altra's philosophy and they are pretty much the only brand of shoe that fits my foot. I have feet that are wide at the forefoot area only. The wide version of a shoe, of which there aren't many, fit at the forefoot but are too high volume in other areas. I liked these shoes despite the fact that they feel a little heavy. They have good cushioning yet are still zero drop. I had passed on the 1.5s due to the tearing issue and was excited to finally be able to buy a pair of Instincts when the 2s came out. All was fine until about the 80 mile mark. That's when I noticed that the mesh fabric on the inner forefoot area had started tearing which is similar to what was happening on the 1.5s. I contacted Altra and got no response. That's probably more disappointing than the tearing. I'm usually inclined to support the little guy but the lack of quality (these are the 2nd pair of Altras I've tried - the One 2 being the other) makes me wary to keep trying Altra. (Running Warehouse came to the rescue though. They have the best Customer Service around.)

Comments: Took a chance on these and I have to say I'm very pleased and surprised with these shoes. I'm no zero-drop fanboy or minimalist fanboy, but these shoes are very well designed and work great for me. I'm 5'11, 150 lbs and a forefoot striker. I moved to lower drop shoes in the Spring of 2013 to help me get over the PF I had in my left foot. I literally wore a hole into the forefoot of Hoka Bondis, and while they did help me recover from injury, the shoes are not well designed: uppers are hot, and outsoles have no solid rubber for wear. In addition, the heels are just too big for someone like me who is already a forefoot striker. I have tried and don't really like Saucony's lower drop shoes as I find the cushioning material to feel dead and flat. I tried on a pair of the Altra's and was impressed. Have been training on these now and will definitely buy more when price drops. Here's where I see Instinct 2.0 plusses: + just right cushioning across the whole foot. For forefoot strikers like me, it's perfect + have never run in shoes with the wide forefoot design, but to me they seem to work as advertised. After 10 miles, my toes/feet are comfortable, not hot and stuffy as with other shoes + nice light weight + nicely designed tongue, not too padded and not too thin (like Nike's) Overall, if you're already running in lower drop shoes, I think you'd like the Altras. Hopefully they'll sell enough to keep making them. I'm definitely going to try the new One-squared racing shoe as well.
