Comments: These were my first pair of Altras and I am a huge fan! I've put over 400 trail miles on these, including the Pine to Palm 100 and 38 miles pacing at Western States, and they've held up fantastically! Lots of room for my toes in the front, but snug in the ankle. They work great on all terrains so far, no slipping on steep down hills and drained well after river crossings. The tread is definitely worn around the forefoot where I strike all the time, but there is still tread left. They are starting to feel as if they're getting close to their life span (I'm roughly 185lbs), might put another 100 miles or so on them, but not much more. I'd highly recommend this to anybody looking for a zero drop, well protected trail shoe.

Comments: After running over 30 Years I have to say this is by far the best shoe I have had on my feet zero drop wide toe box glides over the rocks as long they keep making them I will be buying them. HAPPY TRAILS.

Comments: My trail shoe quiver now contains the Altra Lone Peak, Inov-8 315, and Saucony Peregrine. After using my Altra Instincts on the trail I could tell there would be a niche for Lone Peak. Sure enough, it fits right in. The Instinct was pretty sketchy on some trail sections. Not the Lone Peak. It's more stable, has great traction, and good push through protection. Now I can get more life out of my Instincts and use the Lone Peak for the dirt.

Comments: Great trail shoe! A far better replacement for my beloved Brooks Cascadias. I am a big advocate of natural running or using a forefoot/midfoot strike for running, and seeing a true trail runner that works with my body to utilize this style of running is great. Breaths well and has great traction. They also designed the sole to simulate proprioception normally lost because of the rock shield so they are quite nimble and help avoid twisted or turned ankles.

Comments: I can finally stop searching for the perfect trail shoe! In the past i've used Brooks, Innov8's and Newton's but these are by far the best. I have wide, high volume feet and have had issues with blisters on the outside and top of my toes but not with these. Plenty of room in the toebox and zero drop with cushion all make for a very comfortable ride. They are also very durable and have just the right amount of traction for the rocky and rooty trails in the Northeast. I just hope Altra keeps making these shoes!

Comments: I'm writing this review after running a fast 5mi and a 31mi training trail run yesterday in these. I have been looking for a shoe that allows me to run naturally, with enough protection and cushion to handle training for and racing up to 100 mile ultras. In addition, I need a shoe that allows for my foot to not be confined in narrow toe boxes and can handle a variety of rugged terrains. My first impression is that the protection & traction is excellent. Cushion is perfect, no more / no less needed. It's a little stiffer on the roads due to the plate, but fine. It is not a minimal shoe, it's meant to handle rugged 100m races and in my humble opinion after just these runs, I think they are a very well thought out and quality constructed shoe that will no doubt handle anything you can throw at it. I also run in the Instints (road) and they are just as sweet. Thus far, I have not had any issues but I am only doing 2-3 days per week in the Altras until I can comfortably say I have adapted to the zero drop (coming from a 4-7mm drop). I normally wear a 11.5 but went to an 11.0 in these since they actually fit feet as they are shaped.

Comments: My opinion after a 9m trail run. - I'm a minimalist footwear runner (ultra's etc.) I have ; wide (1-E on the std. meas. device) forefoot, mod. high arch/instep narrow heel. These aren't minimalist, but rather like a std. high quality trail shoe, but are "zero-drop",- midsole is level. Shoe is comfortable -stiff soled- rather straight lasted. I DO prefer a more curved flexible shoe. Forefoot room is ok, they should make a EE for the more wider feet out there. Length is right-on in my typ. #11. I switched the lacing pattern, starting with the 2nd pr. of eyelets, & employed the "railroad track" (my term) lacing, as opp. to conventional "criss-cross" pttrn. This improved fit & comfort significantly. I put in a way-thinner flatter insole from my vivobarefoot shoes also. After a few miles I retied the tie-off to a "cinch" to snug up the ankle collar,.. dialed in perfect! Great traction on everything out there, & protect feet from unseen hurtful objects (hiding under fall leaves). Keepers,- thinking - good 100m shoe, snow, nastier trails, cushioning & protection when you want that.

Comments: Having already worn two pair of the Altra Instincts and being a huge fan of the shoes I had really high expectations for the Lone Peaks. They did not disappoint. I was blown away by the additional protection the rock plate provided and the extra lateral support from the seemingly pointless mountain range on the sides of the shoe. I've worn them several times now on all types of trail and in several different conditions (including snow) and they out-performed my expectations every time. I'm literally in love with these shoes.
