Comments: This is a very preliminary review of the Pearl Izumi EM Road N2. I have only run in it 3 times but so far so good.
About me: I run about 35-40 miles a week; I have narrow feet and a high arch, and I have been comfortable running in other low-drop, minimal support shoes (Saucony Virrata and Inov-8 Road Extreme).
About the shoe: First, I think it is a great looking shoe. Let's be honest, we all care a little bit about how a shoe looks. It has a minimal tread (so sticks, pebbles don't get stuck in it like the Virrata). The contrast lacing is sharp but the laces feel a bit too short. I like to double-tie/knot and it's hard to do without feeling like I need to pull the laces over the top of my foot too tight. The laces are also cord-like/round which makes them harder to tie. That being said, they have yet to come untied on either of my three runs so points there. The shoe fits snug on my foot in all the right places. The heel feels secure yet there is plenty of room in the toe-box for my foot (again, I have a narrow foot. Not sure if this is the shoe for you with a wider foot.) My first run in these shoes was 18 miles and I experienced no hot-spots or blisters. Feel very comfortable right away. The shoe rides nice. I tend not to get into all the mechanics and science behind a shoe because each shoe company has their own, etc. but it feels smooth through the stride. It is not bouncy or overly cushioned but more forgiving that my Inov-8s feel on longer runs (12- 15+ miles). I ran another 6 in them today and I really didn't think about them at all - which to me is a good thing. Will add more about durability when I have some more miles on them.
