Asics GT 1000 2 Product Review

Short Take

Featuring everything you need and nothing you don’t, the Asics GT 1000 2 offers no-nonsense runability and excellent value in a reliable, supportive daily trainer.

Big Updates

  • New Tooling: The heel Gel unit has been moved forward slightly for a smoother transition from heel strike to mid-stance, while aesthetic changes give the midsole an aggressive new look.
  • Updated Upper Design: No huge differences here, though the new overlay designs give the upper an updated aesthetic.

Road Test

The Asics GT 1000, like the Gel 1100 series before it, was a great option for overpronating runners wanting a down-to-earth trainer that could simply get them through their miles. Minimal changes in the latest update to the shoe means that the GT 1000 2 will continue to fit this description.

Utilizing Gel units in both the heel and forefoot, the GT 1000 2 offers excellent impact protection for long runs and high mileage training. The shoe features Asics’ softer SpEVA midsole material, which is a boon for runners who like a pillowy ride.

Though the GT 1000 2’s upper may not feature any stretch panels or seamless overlays, our testers had no problem achieving a comfortable fit. The padded heel collar does a good job keeping everything in place, while the toebox is fairly open and should accommodate most runners.

Our favorite part of the GT 1000 2 is its value. This shoe offers an excellent running experience for overpronators who just need a shoe to get them through their training, and with a price unmatched by others in its category, runners will be hard pressed to find more bang-for-buck than in the GT 1000 2.
