New name, same great feel: The Asics GT 2000 continues to give overpronators the support and runability they love.
- Improved Transition: Asics’ new Dynamic DuoMax gives the shoe a smoother transition, without sacrificing overpronation support.
- Lighter Weight: The 2000 breaks the 11 oz mark in a Men’s size 9 (10.7 oz) and is over half an ounce lighter on the Women’s side (9.2 oz) compared to the outgoing 2170.
- Lower Platform: The GT 2000’s platform drops a few millimeters to 27mm in the heel and 17mm in the forefoot for a 10mm offset.
With the GT 2000, Asics has re-launched their uber-popular 2100 series with updated technologies and a fresh design from heel to toe. Put simply, our feet had a very tough time detecting the differences between the new GT 2000 and outgoing GT 2170. That means fans of the series can rest easy, knowing that their go-to shoe isn’t receiving a serious overhaul.
That said, we still found some welcome upgrades in the new model. We noted a smoother transition from heel to toe, owing to a new two layer midsole, which provides a lower-density foam layer directly underfoot. A few testers also felt softer forefoot cushioning, though the shoe still boasts a fairly responsive toe-off.
One feature we were curious to test is the new Dynamic DuoMax for pronation control. As advertised, this design (first introduced in the Kayano 18) felt less intrusive than a traditional post, but still offered plenty of pronation support. It definitely contributes to the shoe’s smoother transition over its predecessor.
Even with all the changes, the GT 2000 will continue the 2100 series legacy, and we expect it will continue to please a wide range of runners looking for a supportive trainer racking up mileage.
A good update with a familiar feel. Fans of the 2100 series will continue to love the 2000.
I found the cushioning in the 2000 to be slightly softer than in the 2170, especially in the forefoot.
The heel was a bit wider than what I would typically expect from an Asics shoe. A snug midfoot and roomy forefoot should make this shoe a great fit for many runners.
