The Asics Gel Kayano 19 brings a leaner and lighter shoe to overpronators seeking premium cushioning and a smooth ride.
Asics’ Kayano has long been a go-to shoe for runners looking for plenty of overpronation support in a premium package. The 19th version of this iconic shoe treats runners with a nice drop in weight, and improved runability.
Testers were immediately impressed with the ride of the latest Kayano. The transition was undeniably smooth whether landing on the heel or midfoot, aided by the Dynamic DuoMax system, which provides non-intrusive stability, as well as increased flexibility in the forefoot.
We found the cushioning to be on par with what runners expect from Asics, offering a soft feel while retaining a fair amount of responsiveness. Large Gel units in the heel and forefoot provide reliable ground protection for runs of any distance.
The fit is always a big selling point of the Kayano, and this version is no different. The upper provides a secure wrap around the heel and midfoot, with an accommodating toebox for a pleasing fit that should agree with a large share of runners.
“I like the Kayano 19. There’s lots of support - I may even get away with running without my orthotics in this shoe.”
“I ran in the Kayano 15 and 16 a few years back. Though the latest version is a good shoe to run in, its not as plush as I was expecting, almost feeling like a built-up GT 2000.”
“This shoe offers a great heel-to-toe transition. There’s plenty of support without it getting in the way.”
