Asics Gel Nimbus 15 Product Review

Short Take

Looking for cushioning to soak up those miles? Direct your field of vision toward the Asics Gel Nimbus 15, a luxurious take on the high mileage neutral trainer.

Big Updates

  • Reworked Cushioning: Asics’ new two-layered FluidRide platform offers a soft yet bouncy feel, while increased Gel underfoot provides plenty of impact protection.
  • Refined Upper Tech: FluidFit technology features a four-way stretch mesh reinforced by stretchy overlays for a better midfoot wrap.

Road Test

For many runners, the Asics Gel Nimbus is synonymous with comfort and cushioning. This premium neutral trainer is a tried and true shoe for those seeking a protective ride. Now in its 15th version, the shoe continues to deliver a deluxe option for big-time training miles.

In this version, Asics introduces FluidRide, a two-layered midsole design offering a responsive ride combined with a plush underfoot feel. Testers loved the softer heel and forefoot over the previous Nimbus, and increased Gel doesn’t hurt, providing more cushioning to absorb the road impacts during high mileage use.

Little has changed in the fit of the newest Nimbus model. Added stretch mesh panels around the midfoot provide a more form-fitting wrap, though the shoe still has a bit of a “relaxed” fit that’s on the roomy side. Premium details such as a heavily padded tongue and heel collar are the icing on the cake, assuring long lasting comfort.

Runners Say

The fit is pretty spacious, but its easy to tighten down the midfoot if you prefer a more snug and secure fit.

I’m not a huge fan of the aesthetics of the newest Nimbus, but once I get past the looks, this shoe offers a plush running feel and is a definite improvement over its predecessor.

If you’re a neutral runner and you’re doing some serious training or simply want lots of cushioning, you’ll be hard up trying to find a better shoe than the Nimbus.
