A winner right out of the gate in 2009, the Brooks Launch keeps striding forward as a popular lightweight daily trainer.
- Plenty of Cushioning: A Hydroflow ST cushioning unit in the heel provides a soft landing, with additional cushioning coming from the BioMoGo midsole.
- Traditional Upper: A mesh upper material is supported by synthetic overlays to provide a secure fit.
A shoe that was lightweight in 2009 must be a total chunk now, right? Not if it’s the Brooks Launch. This lightweight trainer still comes in at a very respectable weight (9.1 oz for Men’s, 8.1 oz for Women’s), but more importantly continues to feel fleet underfoot according to our testers.
The quick feel of the Launch is a bit of a surprise when you take a few steps and realize just how cushioned this shoe is. Testers noted that the shoe feels extremely plush both when heel striking and midfoot striking. All that cushioning comes at a bit of a price though - don’t expect the Launch to be the most responsive lightweight trainer on the market. Like some of our testers, you may have trouble finding the bottom of the cushioning, especially in the forefoot.
The upper of the shoe, while on the streamlined side, still fit many of our testers just right. The narrow, close fit is typical of lighter weight trainers, and helped our testers to feel securely in place. No hotspots were reported.
We’re not surprised to see the longevity of the Launch. It’s a very agreeable package for the runner who needs a lightweight trainer to rack up the miles in comfort.
I can see why so many people train in this shoe. It’s very comfortable, and I can see racking up a bunch of miles with ease.
Very smooth landing for heel and midfoot strikers, but since it’s more of a traditional design, a forefoot strike feels a bit forced.
This is a great lightweight trainer; its easy to see how this shoe has gone unchanged for so many years.
