As the name suggests, the Brooks PureFlow is designed to get you in your groove and keep you there, whether on a training run or your next big race.
Let's flow through the PureFlow, from top to bottom. First up, the upper provides a close fit throughout. Most testers liked the form-fitting upper, but the forefoot width and height in particular got a little too snug for others. Let's just say that runners with a high-volume foot need not apply, but those who like a streamlined fit will appreciate the PureFlow.
Moving on to the midsole, don't let the bubble shapes trick you – this is not the most cushioned ride out there. The PureFlow definitely feels softer and more stable than the PureConnect, a more race-oriented shoe in the PureProject line. In many ways it offers a similarly resilient ride to other lightweight, neutral shoes like the New Balance 890 v2 and Asics Blur33. If you're looking for a pillow, consider moving into a shoe like the Nike Zoom Elite+ or Nike Air Pegasus.
The outsole is comprised of blown rubber inserts placed on areas that will contact the ground. It provides good grip and seems to wear well. The PureFlow is a nice option if you're looking for a light and flexible shoe that will put a pop in your step.
I felt just a little too hemmed in in the toe box. But I'd still be up for using the PureFlow for training runs, and I like that it's light enough to work as a race day shoe also.
A great fit, and Brooks packed in a lot of cushioning. I could see someone who likes the Kinvara or PureConnect choosing this shoe for a slightly more supple ride as the miles go by.
This shoe has soft, resilient cushioning without being squishy. It's protective without losing a lot of responsiveness.
