For those who treat their feet to the best, the Brooks Trance 12 offers a plethora of cushioning and support in a premium and plush package.
Slipping on the Trance 12 yielded undeniably plush comfort. The soft and flexible upper wraps around the foot, easily conforming around its profile for a personalized fit. The shoe’s arch saddle clamps down on the foot for a secure feeling, without ever feeling overbearing or tight, and the external heel counter provides a snug heel fit without rubbing the wrong way.
The Trance 12 is classified as a maximum support shoe, and it definitely packs a punch against moderate to severe overpronation. Ride-wise, the Trance 12 is on par with what you could expect from a shoe in the premium category: soft and smooth. Though this ultra-cushioned shoe was designed to accommodate heelstriking, testers experienced a smooth landing and an effortless transition through toe-off with a variety of footstrikes. We credit the full-length crash pad that disperses impact from heel to toe.
All this plushness and support does come at a cost. At 12.7 oz for a Men’s size 9, weight of the Trance 12 does not go unnoticed while running. That said, a lightweight experience isn’t a reason runners look at the Trance 12, and the heavier nature of the shoe is a small price to pay for its smooth and luxurious ride.
“I’m impressed with Brooks DNA; the stuff works pretty well. The shoe has a soft feel when running easy, but it firms up a bit when picking up the pace.”
“The Trance 12 is a little heavy for my tastes, but if you’re looking for a lot of cushioning and a lot of support, this is the shoe for you.”
“This is one plush and comfortable upper; I could see myself wearing this shoe around all day.”
