Saucony Hurricane 14 Product Review

Short Take

Saucony Hurricane 14: a fresh take on the max feature, max support running shoe. It offers a softer, lighter and springier ride that’s a lot like the original version from nearly 10 years ago.

Big Updates

  • Lower Weight: Saucony cut nearly an ounce of weight from both the men’s and women’s model. The result is the lightest daily trainer in its class.
  • Flatter Platform: The shoe’s platform drops to an 8mm heel-to-toe offset to encourage a midfoot strike, but keeps enough cushion and responsiveness for heel and forefoot strikers as well.

Road Test

Don’t let the traditional looks fool you – a redesign from the ground up has created a much different – and in our opinion, much improved – ride compared to previous models. Our testers were happily surprised: they weren’t expecting the new Hurricane to be so comfortable and runnable.

From the moment we laced up the Hurricane, we could tell we were in for something special. The plush upper fits close in the heel to keep you anchored in place, but gives you more space from the midfoot forward. The fit is a touch long, so if you’re usually in between sizes, you might want to consider sizing down.

Moving on to the platform of the Hurricane, testers can’t stop talking about the impressive balance of responsiveness and cushioning. We like that the Hurricane 14 provides the support many runners need and the comfort many runners want, with a ride that’s still connected to the road. The shoe is more flexible and responsive than it’s been in years. The Hurricane 14 is a pleasant surprise and a thoughtful addition to the max feature, max support category from Saucony.

Runners Say

Joanna

This is one of the few options that offers lots of overpronation support as well as a lowered heel that follows current trends. The result is a very runnable shoe without sacrificing stability.

Jonathan

The Hurricane 14 lays down really well. I’m normally a midfoot striker, so this shoe is a great match. But even when I change to a heel strike or forefoot strike, the Hurricane remains smooth. You can feel the support in this shoe, but it never becomes intrusive.

Daniel

The upper is pretty impressive. I didn’t find a single hotspot in this shoe. The lacing system is fantastic, and I really like that the fit is roomy but supportive at the same time.
