Built like a track spike for the trails, the Saucony Kinvara TR2 is a focused performance shoe for serious trail athletes.
In the world of low profile trail shoes, there are near-barefoot styles meant to deliver a natural running experience, and there are options that are built for the sole purpose of performance. Saucony’s Kinvara TR2 fits the latter description, giving serious trail runners a track spike-like fit and feel.
The thin platform of this lightweight shoe puts the runner close to the ground for a responsive feel, while retaining just enough cushioning for distances up to 50K. Testers found the ride, in combination with a low weight, to make the shoe feel especially nimble.
With a performance shoe comes the need for a secure fit, and the Kinvara TR2 delivers in that regard. The shoe is snug throughout, though more than one tester found the mesh and seamless overlays more forgiving than that of its predecessor, especially in the forefoot.
Saucony slapped “Runanywhere” on the side of the midsole, and the shoe’s aggressive outsole makes sure you can do just that. Multidirectional lugs provide excellent grip on a variety of surfaces including rocky and technical terrain, while a thin rock plate does a great job of preventing underfoot bruising and poke-through’s.
“The upper feels more supple than that of the previous version, which is good since where the upper on the original was too narrow, the Kinvara TR2 fits just right.”
“I think the cushioning is a tad softer than the previous version of the Kinvara TR, though it’s definitely still very firm and responsive.”
“This shoe offers great traction on all sorts of terrain. I felt prepared running over the rockiest and most technical trails.”
