Running Background

I began swimming and playing soccer when I was five, but started running track when I entered 6th grade. I also picked up basketball in 6th grade and continued that throughout high school, so I guess you could say I've always been running. High school was when I really began dedicating myself to the sport, as I did cross-country and track throughout my 4 years.

Training Goals

I've run two marathons and one half and am currently trying to talk myself into start training for my third full marathon. Having something to train for keeps me motivated and gives me something to do on a daily basis. I'm currently training for the Colfax Marathon in Denver.

I haven't actually "competed" since high school. I ran the sprints by default but my primary focus was on both hurdle races (110H, 300IM). I didn't actually run any type of distance until I tore my ACL my sophmore year in college. As a way to stay in shape, I found that without having that particular ligament, the only direction I was able to run was straight. Since moving out to California I turned those distance runs into distance runs almost exclusively on trails.

Training Goals

No specifically set goals. Honestly I run more for the mental/psychological benefits than for the physical. When I go out on a run it is normally by myself with some headphones. No goals in mind besides getting away for a few hours, for as long as I can manage. I don't use a watch of any kind and don't really monitor my pace, distance, or time. I just listen to my body and try to push myself past the feeling of wanting to stop, usually after I push past that feeling I can get a few extra miles out of myself, and then just try to set myself up to get back to my car alive.

Ran a lot with my dad growing up. I remember doing track- PRE-middle school and being very nervous...I remember being called a good "anchor," and that's about it!

Training Goals

I want to run far...very far! Currently building a solid base and also wanting to get faster. I would like to do an ultra marathon in the next 2 years. Cross your fingers!

I never was a runner before I moved to San Luis Obispo. I found community through the Cuesta Cross Country and Track Teams. I fell in love with the sport and camaraderie. I ran there for two years and now continue to run recreationally.

Have completed several 1/2 marathons and eventually want to work my way up to a couple ultras.

I never ran competitively in high school or college. One day a friend asked me to run a 10k, and then I was hooked. Now I'm training for ultra marathons, go figure.

Training Goals

Currently, I am taking a little time off and running for fun. However, I will start training for a 50 miler and Boston in about a month.

Started running some in middle school (1986-87). Ran 4 years of cross country and track in high school. Ran 2 years in junior college and 2 years in college. Started running Ultra Marathons in 1998 and turned mainly to the trails since then. Have completed over 50 races of 50k to 100m in length.

Training Goals

Not get injured while getting in substantial mileage. Compete in 3-4 ultra races a year while still trying to chip away at my marathon time.

I began running club track when I was 6 and ran up through high school. In high school I ran the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, long jump, 200m, and 4x100m relay. My favorite was always the 300 hurdles and 4x100 relay! As I sprinter I never aspired to run more than a few miles, but Running Warehouse inspired me to run my first 1/2 marathon last Fall. It was so fun (and challenging) that I think I'll be going for it again this year!

Started with track and field in 1985. Competed in hurdles, sprints, relays long jump and triple jump in HS. Competed in the 400 hurdles and 800m in junior college. Ran a season of XC in junior college. Coached HS track for over 10 years and was a HS XC assistant coach for 8 years. Used to run 6-7 days a week between 30 and 50 miles a week at my peak of distance running. Have worked in the running specialty industry since 1996.

Training Goals

Run and cycle for fitness. Alternating between the two seems to keep me healthy. In the past I have had issues with patellar tendonitis, IT band syndrome and piriformis syndrome.

I used to play soccer, but I didn't start running until college. I ran my first full marathon in 2008, then took a break for about a year. After that, I started running more consistently. Now I've done 12 marathons and am starting to do more trail running. I've got a couple of 50 Ks and one 50 miler under my belt now, and am planning on doing plenty more ultras in the future. I've embraced the fact that I've pretty much converted from the road to the trails.

Training Goals

My goal usually varies depending on the race. I've ended up doing about 4 marathons per year the last few years, but now I am probably going to go with 3-4 ultras per year, meanwhile increasing my strength.
