I haven't actually "competed" since high school. I ran the sprints by default but my primary focus was on both hurdle races (110H, 300IM). I didn't actually run any type of distance until I tore my ACL my sophmore year in college. As a way to stay in shape, I found that without having that particular ligament, the only direction I was able to run was straight. Since moving out to California I turned those distance runs into distance runs almost exclusively on trails.

Training Goals

No specifically set goals. Honestly I run more for the mental/psychological benefits than for the physical. When I go out on a run it is normally by myself with some headphones. No goals in mind besides getting away for a few hours, for as long as I can manage. I don't use a watch of any kind and don't really monitor my pace, distance, or time. I just listen to my body and try to push myself past the feeling of wanting to stop, usually after I push past that feeling I can get a few extra miles out of myself, and then just try to set myself up to get back to my car alive.

My running history is young and scant, however, my appreciation for the sport has grown tremendously since I began working at RW in 2009. I have a half-marathon and a 10k under my belt, but I much prefer the accomplishment of just exercising on a regular basis.

My running experience has undergone quite a shift since becoming an employee at Running Warehouse. Growing up, I only ran as necessary for the sports teams I played on, and as a college student I ran occasionally for exercise. In the last 2-3 years I have been running much more regularly and have participated in several local races. The highlight of my running experience is getting out on the trails several times a week.

Training Goals

To stay fit, to run consistently, and to run the City to Sea Half Marathon in October of this year.

Started with track and field in 1985. Competed in hurdles, sprints, relays long jump and triple jump in HS. Competed in the 400 hurdles and 800m in junior college. Ran a season of XC in junior college. Coached HS track for over 10 years and was a HS XC assistant coach for 8 years. Used to run 6-7 days a week between 30 and 50 miles a week at my peak of distance running. Have worked in the running specialty industry since 1996.

Training Goals

Run and cycle for fitness. Alternating between the two seems to keep me healthy. In the past I have had issues with patellar tendonitis, IT band syndrome and piriformis syndrome.

I used to play soccer, but I didn't start running until college. I ran my first full marathon in 2008, then took a break for about a year. After that, I started running more consistently. Now I've done 12 marathons and am starting to do more trail running. I've got a couple of 50 Ks and one 50 miler under my belt now, and am planning on doing plenty more ultras in the future. I've embraced the fact that I've pretty much converted from the road to the trails.

Training Goals

My goal usually varies depending on the race. I've ended up doing about 4 marathons per year the last few years, but now I am probably going to go with 3-4 ultras per year, meanwhile increasing my strength.

I only ran as it was necessary for sports in high school. And I actually dreaded the running aspect. After college I needed something to fill my spare time so I signed up for the San Diego Rock 'n Roll Marathon with Team in Training. I have run several more half marathons since then, and now I really just enjoy anything off the road: beach, trail, running or hiking. I do some fun runs here and there, and would like to do a competitive trail run some day. But for now I just enjoy the outdoors and the company that joins me to stay moderately in shape.

Training Goals

Keep fit enough to not start from zero when training for the next half.

I began running in high school to lose weight and get fit. Enjoying the outdoors, seeing new sights, and the feeling of pushing myself are my motivations to run.

I started running during my freshman year of high school because some of my best friends had gotten into it. I kept improving and stuck with it through those 4 years and ran collegiately for 4 years after that. I'm currently running for the ASICS Aggies and specialize in longer distance races from the 5,000m to 10,000m.

Training Goals

I want to improve on my 10K time on the track, but also am looking towards training for half marathons and eventually doing marathons if all goes well. I'll look to set time goals for those races once I run my first few.
