Product Details:

From ASICS' pinnacle racing series, comes the METASPEED SP, an innovative sprint spike that combines the brand's best technologies and packs them into an incredibly lightweight and explosive package that makes running faster easier than ever. Starting with the magic ingredients of super foam and a carbon plate, this spike has been dialed in to deliver a recipe for success on race day. ASICS' FLYTEFOAM Turbo super foam is ultra-resilient and works harmoniously with the carbon plate to propel sprinters forward quickly and efficiently with every stride. Delivering the grip and traction needed to tear down the final straightaway is a uniquely designed 6-pin (replaceable) spike plate with added elements of traction designed to offer maximum grip while still allowing for a fast turnover. Lastly, the METASPEED SP features a MOTION WRAP upper that is reinforced to be able to handle the power of a sprinter and keep your feet contained, giving you a worry free fit from start to finish. Overall, the ASICS METASPEED SP promises to bring a first class ride for world-class athletes and advanced level sprinters alike in the hopes of delivering first place finishes.

Dropped ballAsics has continuously dropped the ball on their sprint spikes. First with the dynawrap fiasco in the previous iteration on the metasprint and now with the forefoot foam in the metaspeed sp. The forefoot foam is way softer than the foam in the heel and as as result you do not get much of a spring effect but a running on a pillow sensation. Although it is labeled FF Turbo, it feels significantly softer and way less responsive than the FF turbo in the metaspeed lds

wear socks.D1 200-400 runner here (21.6, 48.5) I've worn plenty of spikes, superfly, maxfly, Nitro elite 400, SD-x etc and would go barefoot (no socks) and get BETTER grip, these have a faux leather/leatherette liner on the heel meaning if you don't want to feel like they are falling off your foot, wear socks. (my heels nearly came out while accelerating) Honestly the difference was night and day, I was ready to return them because my heels wouldn't stay put until as a last effort I threw some socks on and my problems seemed to go away. but this is the only spike I've ever had to wear socks for. The rebound and energy return is quite good, and they won't pop like some other options, but the price is too high for these to get 4 stars. $250 is just too high compared to the Prime SP 2's and Maxflys

Not Worth the PriceThe balancing of the spike is forward heavy, but the entire shoe itself doesn't give the feedback I would expect a super spike to give. The upper material feels very fragile, and the way the plate is designed at the bottom of the spike makes striking on the forefront of the foot very uncomfortable. The pricepoint of the shoe makes it unjustifiable to buy for me, this is the highest priced spike on this website and it might be one of the worst as well; better off buying a new balance or nike if you can get your hands on either one.

Overpriced and Poorly DesignedPlate is stiffer than a nike maxfly or adidas sp2, but the foam implementation is poor and doesn't give the same energy return as the spikes mentioned before. I felt really flat while sprinting, usually with superspikes I feel bouncier but in these I felt like I was sinking into the track. Because the plate is under the foam rather than outside like the newbalance SDX my right spike ended up cracking, it's Asics first attempt at a super spike so I guess they still have a lot to work on
