Product Details:

The METASPEED Sky+ is the premier marathon racing shoe from ASICS. Packed with ASICS’ most responsive cushioning, the METASPEED Sky+ has the tools athletes need to grab new PRs in long-distance road races like the half and full marathon

 What You’ll Love

  • More ultra-responsive FLYTEFOAM cushioning
  • Efficient rocker geometry
  • MOTIONWRAP upper for the ultimate fit

Building on what ASICS has learned from the previous models, the METASPEED SKY+ has been updated with more FLYTEFOAM Turbo underfoot, a reworked ASICS GRIP outsole, and an all-new MOTIONWRAP upper with zone construction. ASICS has raised the carbon-fiber plate inside the midsole to increase the amount of FLYTEFOAM Turbo under the plate. This increase in the height of the plate allows the foam underneath to be compressed to a greater degree which, in turn, magnifies the shoe's responsiveness and efficiency.

The METASPEED SKY+ maintains the use of the GUIDESOLE rocker to keep an efficient underfoot experience that propels the runner forward. These energy-saving benefits help allow runners to run faster for longer distances and provide the edge athletes need to succeed on race day. The last update to the shoe is the addition of a new MOTIONWRAP upper. This lightweight mesh upper is designed to be ultra-breathable in key locations while allowing other areas are reinforced for excellent support. Overall, the ASICS METASPEED SKY+ is an excellent option for runners looking to maximize their performance in long-distance races.

 What’s New

Not for heal strikerGreat shoe if you don’t heal strike at all. I heal strike a little on my left foot and with in 12 miles very noticeable wear. I don’t understand why the don’t put more coverage there. I purchased this shoe for a marathon that was recently cancelled I can only imagine what kind of wear it would gotten from the marathon.

Ready for take-offImmediately after putting this shoe on, it feels as if you are poised for take-off. Lightweight, very light! It does not have the rigidity from some competitors in the same (price and racing shoe) category. Perfect for the training runs that involve fartlek, on-off or easy and fast. This shoe feels comfortable with any speed. It's bouncy step benefits racing. 5K up to marathon. It is easy on the feet, and cushions tired legs in all the right places. In comparison, rigid shoes point in one direction and benefit from a certain push off, the Asics allow for more choice of foot strike, which can lead to a "lazy" heel strike when not attentive or tired. So, more work is necessary to keep the body in a tight position and not to let the shoes get away with a slowing down body stance. Innovative shoe laces keep them locked securely. Tight upper supports a firm fit. Roomy toe space, but with the wrong socks it can give the feeling of sliding around. The heel area is roomy, might be too big for bony feet. The shoes don't feel too hot in 80F plus temps. The outside sole provides great grip on dry and wet (race water stations) surfaces and sharp corners. Pros: Lightweight. Shoe lace design. Roomy but adjustable fit. Bouncy, but in control Cons: Bouncy step requires more attention. Shoes last the appropriate mileage but suddenly become stale. Tested: 150+ miles on mostly road (new and old asphalt) Compared with Asics Metaspeed Sky and Nike Vaporfly 2. Maximum mileage on my running shoes before disposal: 365 miles Marathon best: 2:35, Half marathon 1:12. Running for 32 years (injury free)

Fast, Bouncy, Good Toebox, Narrow MidfootThe title says most of it. I've run in these shoes at the 10 mile distance last year (blaze orange) and again this year (blue and orange) and really enjoyed them. The midfoot is a bit narrow for me, causing a large blister. The toebox has ample room. Size was standard. With a bit more width in the midfoot, I'd rate a 5.

Learned a lessonUnfortunately, I missed the return date, with only 13 days left to return them, I started running in them. The following are the reasons why I will look elsewhere for top end running shoes: 1. Heel Slippage - I cant get a lockdown even with the runners knot. Both right and left feet elevate off the sole slightly with every stride. 2. Looks - This shoe, every bit as awful looking in person and then some. The colors look like they were applied with a spray paint can by a novice. I was not keen on the looks or the color combos in the first place. Actually in the last 2 years I found that shoes look a lot surprisingly better in person and started expecting that. In the case of this shoe, no surprises it is genuinely ugly. 3. The stack height seems reverse! - This shoe reports that it has a 39mm heel height and a 34mm toe height. When running it feels like the exact opposite! Like the heel is 34mm and the toe is 39mm. In fact, it looks like that is the case in appearance. I'm sure it is 39mm heel and 34mm toe, however because the front of the shoe is so enlarged, the optical illusion it gives me plays on my running game. 4. Tongue Slippage - the tongue is paper thin, NOT gusseted, and folds under itself and side to side. When I tried using a runners knot, the laces do not have enough shoe tongue to sit on so they sit directly on my foot. stopped every 2 to 3 miles to re-adjust. No PR chance in this shoe in my future. 5. Upper Material - now I believe I have an educated guess as to what running in clear boxing tape would feel like. If you get these shoes, pinch the upper material of this shoe and a piece of the clear box tape from the box they were shipped in at the same time. Tell me I'm wrong. 6. Price - TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS. This amount bought me the "features" listed in my first five points. Enough said.

Very Fast!I am still settling into these shoes (less than 40 mi, but ran a half marathon in them). The pro: they're very fast and they make it feel easy to run my fastest paces. The con: I've been getting some hotspots under the forefoot a few miles into my fast runs. I think they have a more aggressive "toe-off" which my feet may need to adapt to, and this could be the reason. I hope that wears off because it would be great to confidently make these my race day shoes!

Comfortable racing shoesI used these in a recent half marathon. I was happy with the fit. I usually wear a 9 in women's shoes but I got the 9.5 and they fit well. I do feel that I recovered well from the half. Maybe quicker than past half marathons . . . I have heard that carbon fiber plated shoes help with this and that was my main reason for buying these despite the price. They were fun to use and I do not regret the purchase.

Great (up to the half-marathon distance)These are very comfortable and almost feel like they were custom-made. I really enjoy these for middle-distance runs (12-15 miles). When I used them for a 20-mile run, my feet were unusually sore the next day -- not a sensation I experience in the alphafly 1's or prime x's -- so for me, this is not a shoe I could use for the marathon distance.

Excellent Super Shoe! After having some foot pain in the Endorphin Pro 3s, I purchased a pair of the MetaSpeed Sky + on the recommendations of others. I am a huge fan of these shoes. I love the wider toe box and the way these shoes feel much more stable than other super shoes. I also love the lower drop of these shoes. The foam gives an excellent bounce. Very light weight as well! Highly recommend!

Great replacement for NikeI have tried most of the Super Shoes. I'm a 51 yo F 3:13 marathon, 1:29 Half. I was looking for something a bit kinder in the forefoot than the Vaporfly. The Vaporfly is great, but tough for 26.2. I was concerned about the 5mm drop in the Sky+, but found it very smooth. It didn't have the mechanical feel that the Alphafly has where I felt I needed to push myself forward to get on my forefoot. This shoe is very comfortable and you just cruise along and find you're running much faster than you expect. I took it out for a fun half marathon and cruised it at a 6:56 pace. Legs felt great afterward. I have a narrow flat foot between 8.5 - 9.0. I ordered these in 9.0 and the fit is just right. The Sky+ feels more stable on corners and in general than the Vaporfly/Alphafly. Will likely use these when I run Boston in April.

Love This ShoeVery light, springy, and so much fun to run fast in. Super comfortable upper wraps the foot and gives good lockdown with ribbed lacing, great grip on the outsole, and while the nylon-based foam is different than any other shoe I've run in, the responsiveness of the cushioning keeps giving back energy the more you put into it. Set a 10k PR in my first run in them, and I am in love!!!

Best super shoeI love this shoe! It's speed, perfect lockdown, light, great looking, amazing energy return. Superior to vaporflys & better on my knees because of the lower drop. King of all super shoes.

Junk! - Plain and not so simpleThis is a tribute to Running Warehouse more than anything else! I would like to acknowledge the outstanding customer serivice that makes me a customer for life especially when I could have lost 250 dollars for junk. I was not aware of the return policy of runnning warehouse. In my ignorance I contacted asics directly. This shoe is clumsy, really cheap looking and feeling when in hand, comfort is sustained only for the first couple of miles before they start to feel like antiquated solid rubber 1970 running shoes, and even with a runners knot, because this shoe is so massive in the front compared to the back (kind of like a hydroplane) in appearance and density, that heel slippage could not be corrected with a runners knot or any pair of socks that I own. Well I went to asics first and they said they could only give me my money back if I filed a warranty claim. Well, the shoe has no manufacturing defects, it was garbage in the design therefor garbage was produced. So they did nothing for me. When I found out about running warehouse 90 day period, I returned the shoe, and customer service allowed me to get another product which was/is excellent! In fact, I went to the asics web site to submit my review, stating only what I stated here and they rejected it. They provided me with a link that was supposed to take me to a page on their site to re-vamp the response to something that meets their review submission rules. (Can you believe this!). When I clicked on the link, not joking it opened up a new session in my browser and I kept gettingan error that the page could not be loaded. When I reported this to customer service they did not and still have not responded to multiple requests from me to be able to submit my review. Shame on Asics! But bless Running warehouse for taking wonderful care of their customers, I am a customer for life!

A better version of V 1.0I have all the nike supershoes, including the alphafly 2.0 that just dropped. The new meta sky is neck and neck in my opinion. It is not as cushioned but I think may be a faster shoe. It is a matter of taste, in my opinion. The Asics is slightly narrower in the forefoot. Also, size up in this, the fit is the same as the Asics Metasky 1.0 despite information to the contrary. I wear a 10.5 in Nike and 11.0 in these. Overall this shoe is a winner. If you are not budget constrained and have a closet full of super shoes I would absolutely recommend this one. If you only can have one, this one is worthy of consideration.

Reconsider, ill bet even the pro's areI have never written a follow up review but twith this shoe I am. Im not sure that the first review was even published and actually hope that it will not be. This shoe is awful! I was joking early on that consmetically this shoe looks exactly like it could be the sports model of a dutch clog. Well, I can live with a shoe no matter what the looks if it delivers a payoff!I recently ran Marathons back to back and their are important things I experienced that I realized I only would know by running a lot of miles, but also back to back. NOT ONLY DOES THE SHOE LOOK LIKE A DUTCH CLOG BUT AFTER THE 15th mile the comfort level in this shoe also was identical to it's wooden Dutch Cousin. It was that moment that instantly and for both feet, that the balls of both my feel in a word were - destroyed! Lots of foam yes, but it is lots of course solid dry foam! Both feet are only separated by a paper thin shoe liner from the mid-sole. So for every stride for 15 miles both my feet were landing on this hardened foam surface causing a stinging sensation in both legs. Altogether I have around 60 miles, so maybe this course dryfoam needs a break in time far exceeding that to finally become soft. It it does, well thats very bad news too because any of the super shoes that are not performing as designed right out of the box! This shoe messed up both feet so bad, I just now had to cancel a 1/2 marthon. No question this shoe has some never before experienced energy return and absolutely has never before experienced pain! I had a discovery for the AlphaFly Next% unfortuneately as well so please read before you buy!

Would recommend but with several disclaimersFirst - appearance and design. Normally in my reviews if I do touch on this subject it is brief. In the case of this shoe I just cant resist. This shoe looks like the designer was from Holland and wanted to make a sports version of the iconic dutch clog that has been in use since midevil times. Not kidding! just google images for dutch clog. Perhaps the designer was running the Amsterdam marathon and drew inspiration from one of hollands must buy tourist souveniers :-). I would absolutely love it if asics had a dutch clog color wave. Perhaps an all pink or red base shoe color with pretty tulip images all over it! At first glance when I saw this shoe, I could not believe that it was designed for speed. But this is the case with the majority of super shoes. So on to more relevant stuff. I have thus far ran about 30+ miles in this shoe in 5 to 10 mile blocks so I do not yet know what a full marathon run will be like. I plan on running two marathons in the next 4 weeks. The first one I will be using this shoe and two weeks later, I will be running a second marathon for the season in the Nike Alphafly v1. I will be able to give a much better review in relation to this shoes purpose at that time. When I first pulled these shoes out of the box, I was floored at how remarkably unexciting and simple the shoe is. A paper thin upper with an even thinner non-guesseted tongue that seems almost rippable. This is attached to a large cushioned midsole that has a carbon plate somewhere in the middle with a thin piece of rubber outsole and thats that. I thought for a 250 dollar shoe that it would have a guesseted tongue and a pull tab on the back to make it easier to put the shoe on. Then I recalled about 30 years ago in Germany being in a 300,000 dollar Porsche 911 Turbo special edition and the car did not have air conditioning and no automatic window switches. It used the roll crank style system found in cars from 60+ years ago when automatic window technology was just being introduced. I remember then the engineer said that the car is designed for speed, all unnecessary features that took additional energy, added weight or did nt contribute to adding to the cars speed were eliminated. Well I present you the porsche 911 turbo special edition of running shoes - the Metaspeed Sky+. This shoe is all business. Truthfully I am a bit worried about an upcoming Marathon in which I will be using this shoe. I am a average mid-packer in love with shoe technology and am not sure what the shoe will demand of my running style for a entire marathon. When I took my first mile in the shoe, I immediately knew why that their are so many comparison reviews between the metaspeed sky+ and AlphaFly Next%. I have had my foot in every supershoe to date with the exception of the Altra version. The Asics Metaspeed Sky+ is the supershoe that comes closest to the AlphaFly for a very unique and remarkable pop of energy as the shoe comees off the pavement. This shoe is definately a supershoe that lets you know that the carbon fiber plate and midsole are designed and made of materials to give a unique burst of energy that thus far and in all my running history have only found in these two shoes. While NB, Addidas, Saucony and Sketchers have their own version, it is the Sky + and AlphaFly that in my opinion are the top contenders for being a genuinly and noticable performance enhancing supershoe. I found the ride to be comfortable and that the mid-sole material really resembles the same foam as the lightstrike pro material visually and texture wise that the addidas super shoes use. Pros - this is a very light running shoe that packs a charge like energy burst when lifting from the ground. It is a very cool shoe for hot days and the ride in my 5 and 10k running blocks have been a blast. This shoe is more comfortable and feels more stable than the AlphaFly. The AlphaFly really digs into the inner arch of both my feet causing mild soreness while the Sky+ so far feels on point. While the energy return in the AlphaFly seems a bit higher, the trade off is that my foot feels more at home and stable in the sky+. The outsole rubber is fantastic in that it really grips the pavement and releases in harmony with my stride. Finally, this shoe is definately in my light weight sweet spot. The cons are one - price 250.00 dollars!! enough said! Two - the laces are too short. I could not tie a runners knot with the original laces so I swapped the original for some longer ones. An easy fix but something like that I would have completely thought would have been flagged in quality checks during the production and testing of this shoe. Makes me wonder, if something as obvious as that was not coaught, then what else was missed in a shoe that for 250 dollars should be rigorously tested! Third - most important of all my cons - the heel cup. When I first saw pictures of this shoe and how curved the rear of the heel cup is I knew I would probably get a blister as historically, for the shoes that have similarily designed heel cups throughout the years I have always developed hot spots or blisters. This is no exception. On my 10 mile runs, the back of my seet get a bit numb and sore. So far no all out blisters have deveoped. I knew right away even before putting the shoe on that I would have this issue but am ok with that con for the time being as the shoe is fast, bouncy, lots of energy return and light. Lastly, as mentioned earlier, no guesseted tongue or rear pull tab. But in my porsche 911 analogy, those are marginal things because this shoe is 100% business.Would I recommend this shoe? yes. I would say that in my humble research and testing that this shoe is so far, the best supershoe of the supershoe lineup. I have and am familiar with the design, engineering and field tested all but one supershoe (Altra Vanish Carbon). For an average midpacker like myself, I know that 99.999... of my performance has nothing to do with my shoe. I believe that in my case, I can and will perform better in this shoe but for reasons I didn't realize until now. The more fun I am having while running, then the much better gains in heart rate, cadence, body energy consumption and morale I have. This shoe is fun, and I am looking forward to running my first marathon of the season in these shoes.
