Product Details:

Redefining what a daily trainer with a natural foot shape design means, the AltraFWD Experience is the first Altra shoe without the signature zero-drop offset, bringing the brand's natural running philosophies and foot-shaped toebox to a whole new audience. Pairing a rocker midsole geometry with an all-new 4 mm heel-toe offset, the AltraFWD Experience delivers a smooth ride that effortlessly rolls the runner forward through their stride. The well-cushioned midsole features a compression-molded EVA foam that offers a comfortable and responsive underfoot feel without adding unnecessary weight. Meanwhile, the rubber outsole is designed with a flex groove pattern that offers versatile grip and added flexibility.

The streamlined and stylish Engineered Mesh upper is highly breathable to keep your feet cool during longer training periods and warm-weather runs. Finished with the Standard Footshape Fit, the AltraFWD Experience is a comfortable all-around running shoe for anyone looking for lightweight cushioning and an effortless ride during their daily runs or walks.

Run/Walk blissAt this point in my running career (50 years in this year), I'm more to the side of durability. Altras in general seem to last much longer than Hoka and Brooks so I automatically like them better. These shoes have moderate rise versus zero rise of other Altras — that may be an issue for some runners. Comfortable and durable.

Best Altra to date for meWas a little skeptical regarding the 4mm drop but took a chance on these. They feel a little less cushioned than the Torin 7 and Escalante 3. It also feels a little shorter that these . These are narrower as well but fit my medium foot great. Probably the best shoe I have run and walked in in a long time. The ride reminds me of a carbon plated shoe , propelling you forward. Very responsive.

Altra version of the Hoka RinconThese really remind me of the Rincon. Light, simple, comfortable. Nice rocker, but not a lot of outsole durability. I think for a good first 4mm drop shoe from Altra, it's a good effort. I don't like the overly sloppy toe boxes of most Altra shoes and I cannot tolerate Zero drop. I tried these on a recommendation and I'm pretty pleased. They have been a pleasant surprise. The heel lockdown could use some improvement, but you could say the same about previous Rincon's as well. 50 years old. 5'8 150 lbs. 35-50 mpw on all surfaces.

Just OkI was interested to try this shoe after running through 3 pairs of the Escalante v3 (which was a disappointment from the 2.5). The fwd fit well and stayed secure on my foot. The toe box was tighter than I'm accustomed to from Altra (I've run in lone peaks, escalantes, and various other models for thousands of miles), but not a deal breaker. There's been slight rubbing on my little toe, but not too bad. After 275 miles, the wear on these shoes is pretty bad. The pads on the inside of the upper heel have been worn through. This started after only 100 miles of running. The soles have also worn incredibly fast compared to previous models. Out of the box, it's a nice shoe. Durability is lacking.

Almost the perfect shoeLike the other reviewer, I think these might be my favorite shoes of all time. The only thing I wish is a slight amount of a heel counter. Nothing hard, but just something slight. I think if it had that it would be perfect. I can take this shoe out for a 5k hard tempo, a marathon long run, an easy 30 minute recovery run, even some trail running on dirt trails that aren’t super technical and it’s great. It’s stable, not twitchy but also responsive. The super foams can be nice, but a lot of them have different sweet spots of pace and cadence they like, this shoe doesn’t have the squish or pop of a super foam but it is fast and also forgiving. I hear they are coming out with a trail version of this shoe too. That is gonna be killer. The upper of this shoe is also great. It wraps my foot like a glove. It’s soft, yet it holds my foot in place perfectly securely without my having to crank the laces down. The only other small bit pick is that the lace lengths on my left and right shoes are different and the tongue feels more padded than it needs to be, but these are shoes that disappear in my feet on a run. I never need to retire the laces, so any gripe with the tongue is kind of moot. Great shoe. Buy it.

Becoming my favorite shoe of all timeI’m absolutely stunned by how much I’m loving these. Personally my sweet spot is between 4-6 mm in terms of a drop so I appreciated this deviation from the norm on Altra’s part. More than that though I LOVE the fit, the ride, everything. My east runs are generally between 6:40 high to 7:30 pace and threshold work between 5:20 high to 5:40 mid and I’ve been able to use them for everything. I honestly prefer using them for workouts more than my Vaporfly’s as crazy as that might sound. I took them out for some tempo intervals in the rain at 5:30 high pace and they were great. I’m really enjoying these and I really do hope Altra doesn’t make drastic changes if they come out with something new next year. The fit, the drop, the the weight, the ride, the feel, the snug fit, the upper, the tongue, etc. is as good as I can reasonably want. This is definitely my new favorite road trainer. Nice work, Altra!
