Product Details:

The fast just got faster with the HOKA Mach X, a supercharged version of the highly popular HOKA Mach series. With the introduction of PEBA foam and a Pebax plate in the midsole, the Mach X serves as a lightweight performance trainer that easily doubles as a race day option.

The HOKA Mach X takes the already speedy Mach series to a new level with its innovative dual-layer midsole. This upgraded design features a highly responsive PEBA foam atop a protective layer of CMEVA foam, resulting in over 40mm of cushioning in the heel. This combination of foams provides an exceptional experience by offering both plushness and responsiveness.

Enhancing the shoe's performance further is the inclusion of a propulsive Pebax plate nestled between the two layers of foam. This plate adds an extra element of snappiness to the ride, facilitating fast and efficient leg turnover. Whether it's speed days or race days, the HOKA Mach X proves to be an ideal choice.

In the outsole, the HOKA Mach X is equipped with Durabrasion rubber that strikes a wonderful balance between being durable enough to rack up the miles on top of staying lightweight enough to keep you moving at top speeds.

Staying in line with the theme of being a shoe tuned for training and ready for race day is the lightweight engineered jacquard mesh upper that offers a supremely comfortable and secure fit, in addition to being lightweight and durable. Whether it's a speed workout or race day, the HOKA Mach X is ready to help you have your best run.

Great training shoeI needed a good training shoe on and off the track. This shoe is perfect. Enough cushing for the off road trails and also light enough for the track workouts. I am training for the 1500m for the summer track season.

Not an upgrade from the Mach 5When the shipping carrier delivered my Mach X order I was cautiously optimistic this shoe would offer an experience similar to the Endorphin Speed line or the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. But it was a let down. First off, the upper is too baggy in the midfoot. I don't know what the development team was thinking. All they needed to do was take the upper from the Mach 5 and slap it on the Mach X and it would have fit most of us like a glove. Then there's the heel collar. It feels too high on the lateral sides and rubs against the protruding ankle bone. Not nice. As for the midsole I don't get the sense that I'm running on a superfoam. Landings feel dead rather than active. Hoka ported the super-critical ProFly+ EVA from the Mach 5 and put it under the plate. Because there's no carrier foam to provide structure the EVA, which is found in abundant quantity under the heel, the foam flattens out during the course of a run making the heel feel disconnected from the rest of the shoe. The forefoot, where most of the PEBA foam is located, doesn't exhibit the pop I experience from other trainers in this category. The Pebax plate in the Mach X is very stiff. There's less longitudinal and torsional flexibility than an Endorphin Speed 2/3 or the Deviate Nitro 2. That can be a positive or negative depending on what your seeking. But I didn't care for that type of rigid ride in a trainer. It was not as smooth as Endorphin Speed 2 and it certainly was near as nimble. It lacked the silky smooth and springy transitions of the Fuelcell Supercomp Trainer V1 and frankly, it felt clunky.

Long Run Trainer - RoadIdeal for long runs, tempo and threshold training. Excel for a quick recovery, but designed as a racing shoe so ensure the surface isn’t slick. Not a trail shoe. Perfect for road and “greenway” surfaces.

Huge heel spaceThought cushion was balanced- not too much or little, but unfortunately these seem to run very large. I have a hard to fit foot , but these seemed TOO roomy - even for hoka

Loved them until I ran a long run in them...I have been wearing the Mach 5 successfully but wanted to change it up for my faster runs as I gear up for a marathon this fall. I was hoping these would be like the 5 but faster. Sadly, they must make me run funny or something because my left knee can't take more than 6 miles in these. I may have run a little faster for the speed part of my run, but not worth the money if I can't wear them for long marathon runs.... and the marathon for that matter. I am going to have to send back.

Feels Like Previous MachsI was really hoping this would be a fun, durable training companion to the Rocket X 2 (which is outstanding), but it really feels just like a Mach 1-5 with an outsole. I like the added outsole a lot as it does add a bit more pop and improves grip, but think the shoe is overpriced for what’s essentially an outsole upgrade. The ride is smooth and predictable, great for daily steady runs but feels more like a 26/27mm forefoot stack than 34. I never would guess it’s a max cushion shoe if I didn’t read the specs because I can definitely feel all the lumps/bumps in the road or dirt trail. Overall, the shoe runs larger than the the Rocket X or same size in other brands; nice if you plan on long outings or have wider/higher foot volume but size down 1/2 if you want it to fit like the Rocket X and such. Not a bad shoe at all if you love the previous Machs just not what it’s hyped up to be and expensive for a daily trainer feeling shoe. Given the option, I’d probably go back to Saucony endorphin speed 2, which is far snappier, more fun, and handles both training and racing far more capably.

Is "Mushy Plating" a term?I split my time between road and trails, and I was really looking forward to the Mach X as a cushy plated shoe for putting in some longer faster miles for marathon training. Unfortunately for me, this model is too tall, and just doesn't have enough stability for me. The shoes are comfortable, but I want something less unstable in the heels. With great sadness, I returned my pair.

Great shoe.I have run in mac 5 for a long time and really like the shoe. When mac x came out figured it would be a better mac 5 which it is, great cushioning and rebound. Easy to pickup the pace, performs better at faster pace. Legs don't get beat up when road running with mac x also good support. Thanks RW for great customer service.

Plate MagicI am a 2:51 marathoner and have come to almost completely rely on plated shoes (carbon or plastic) to give my feet support in training and racing. I have higher arches and have found the plates to help reduce soreness and fatigue I get in my feet after large training blocks. The Mach has been a great shoe through the iterations but I have found the footbed in the more recent models to be a little too aggressive which, if running >6 miles can cause some soreness thats hard to recover from. Enter the Mach X with a plate! Really enjoy this shoe so far. Put maybe 50 miles on the pair. To me they fit a similar role in my shoe lineup as the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3, the shoe I used for most of my miles in training for Boston 2023. In short, the Mach X is lightweight, feels fast underfoot, and gives my feet that plate support and energy response I have come to love. Good shoe Hoka!

Mach XI was really looking forward to test these out. Was not sure if I would use them as a replacement to the Mach 5 which are just a treat to run in. For me, the Mach X felt very stable and forgiving, but the ride was inmemorable. They were just not so much fun to run in. Don’t get me wrong, they did the job but for a “super trainer” I rather keep the Superblast in the rotation. I feel like a lot of peeps will enjoy these if they want to keep a super trainer in their rotation, along with another daily trainer, a recovery day shoe, and their racer.

Another HOKA dissapointmentI am a senior male runner, 5'10'', 145 lbs, run about 250 miles/month, have been on the marathon circles for over 22 years. Started running with HOKAs when they first came out years ago. Ever since the first models, the quality and evolution of running shoes from HOKA have stagnated compared to other shoe brands. I was very much looked forward to try these as soon as came out, thinking that HOKA is finally keeping in pace with other shoe companies like Saucony, NIKE, and Adidas. Summary The upper is solid, and supportive on long runs. The tongue was thin and average comfort. It felt tight throughout the runs. Midsole: felt very average and clumsy compared to other shoes like Saucony. Outsole: felt stable and good traction on all type of surfaces. Summary: average trainer shoe without any added improvements compared to older models. High priced. I will be returning it to RW. I wish that it would have worked as advertised.

decent predictable surface cruising shoe.....I take all my shoes out on dirt trails to see how they work as trail shoes. For me, this shoe works best on flats, false flats, and any predictable surface where speed can be maintained. I think I noticed the plate springing me a bit forward. The toe box for me narrows too much at the first meta tarsal on my feet. The height of the toe box isn't that high either, could feel the top of my toes rubbing against it. On climbs (trails), where getting up onto toes is necessary, the plate bogs down efficiency. After about an hour of running, the toe box feels way to jammed up. The midsole cushioning feels pretty decent, but a tad soft and slow responding - I like Asics Flyte Foam without plate. Tread pattern does not work on dry steep trails, not at all, no grip, don't try it. This shoe last is best suited for folks with narrower toe splay. I like the density of the upper, keeps out fox tails/ dry grass pokers. I took laces to top eyelet and still noticed smidge heel lift. My go to trail shoe is the NB 840 v1 and for easy non dynamic trail outing - Trabuco Max 2. My body weight is 155lbs.

Disappointed compared to Mach 5I was excited to try the Mach X and, just got the shoes last Friday. I'm a senior runner doing 6 miles every other day in the Mach 5 and it is an awesome shoe. The "X" is heavier, stiffer, and has a smaller toe box making the fit uncomfortable. I just finished my 3rd run and I am not happy with them. Having run in the Cliftons and Machs for years, this version doesn't work for me.
