Product Details:

If you're on the hunt for a carbon-plated shoe that can withstand all the miles logged during a training season with ease, look no further than the PUMA Deviate Nitro 2. Loaded with two layers of Nitrogen infused foam—a soft top layer called Nitro Elite and a responsive bottom layer called Nitro, the Deviate Nitro 2 provides the rebound needed to pick up the pace and the ideal amount of firmness to keep up the energy of the ride without sacrificing comfort. Embedded inside the midsole is the PWRPLATE, an engineered carbon plate that works with the foams to deliver a snappy toe-off. This midsole setup allows you to enjoy a variety of workouts whether lacing these up for your long runs or your speed days.

And when it comes to durability, it just doesn't get much better than the tough as nails PUMAGRIP ATR rubber outsole. In the upper, the breathable mesh offers a secure fit thanks to strategically placed PWRTAPE that offers support where you need it while keeping weight to a minimum. Overall, the PUMA Deviate Nitro 2 has what it takes to handle the rigors of intense training as well as the fun of everyday runs.

What You'll Love

Ballerina slippersSuper narrow and tapered toebox. Looks like ballerina slippers. Midsole felt good and really like the colors, I just couldn't deal with the cramped forefoot and lack of toe splay. I wear a 12.5 in all my shoes. Puma is one of those brands that doesn't really make a 12.5, so I went up to a 13. Still way to narrow up front. Rave reviews from so many people across the board for this shoe for so long. I finally tried a pair, and I honestly can't understand what people are thinking.

DisappointingI never review shoes, but I had to do it for this one... I am 39 yrs old, usually a 30-40 mpw guy, so nothing too crazy, but I try. Recently I've been doing long training runs in the New Balance SC Trainer (incredible), recovery in Asics Gel Nimbus 25, and some uptempo workouts in the Asics Magic Speed (yes, version 1). I have read review after review about how great these shoes are and even comparisons to the New Balance SC Trainer that I am so fond of. I found them on the Puma website for $120, which saved me about $80 over a new pair of the SC Trainers and buddy, lemme tell ya: Spend the extra $80. These feel like an old stiff pair of Brooks with a plate in there for no reason. Or like, the instability of the first Novablast, with the uncomfortable midsole of the Boston 12. Absolutely soul crushingly stiff foam with the World's Most Pointless Plate that doesn't roll you forward at all. I took them for one FOUR MILE run and could not wait to get home to take them off. I have no idea why the reviews for this are so positive unless you're a masochist.

I had high hopesI really needed something for gravel and dirt roads I run which balances against all the mountain running I do. These were comfortable and seemingly are made really well, but a deal breaker arose after a few runs that I could have never predicted. The small opening on the bottom of the outsole which exposes the carbon plate, will get small and somewhat large rocks jammed into it. I realize this might not happen on strictly road running but that is rare for me to do. They worked fine on gravel or dirt roads otherwise, but having to pick the rocks out every mile or 2 is a total hassle.

Top Tier ShoeThe use for the Deviate Nitro 2 ranges from short tempo runs, 5K, 10K....to Half Marathon. I've had no problems using it for all of them. Short up-tempo runs feel snappy and quick while the longer runs still leave my legs feeling fresh and ready for more. Easily one of my favorite daily trainers. It's just so versatile!

Love this shoeGreat all-rounder shoe. I can pretty much do any marathon training workout in them. It's not over-exaggerated in any particular area. The rocker feeling is pretty mild. It feels bouncy but planted. I find it to feel fairly light under foot, but plenty of foam to protect the legs. If you've heard anything about Puma's, the grip on them is top notch. Coming from something like the Novablast 3, you'll appreciate the grip. Sizing: consider going a half size up. Really great shoe. This is my first Puma running shoe and I'm super happy I picked it up. If you can find it on discount, all the better!

May be a great shoe for faster effortsThe shoe was comfortable and actually felt "softer" than expected for a plated shoe. I returned this shoe because I couldn't really even notice the plate? It's not a full length plate.

Great Do-it-all ShoeI like a shoe that can do whatever I feel like doing and be the only shoe in my rotation. I'm on the border of 10 to 10.5 and I went with the 10.5 and it fits perfectly. The upper is breathable and comfortable. The tongue is mildly padded with a neoprene feel but it works well. The Nitro/Nitro Elite midsole provides a reasonable amount of cushioning for my old legs while having a nice, bouncy feel. After 230 miles so far, the midsole retains its cush & bounce. I run on mostly asphalt and concrete and the PumaGrip is great, even in wet weather. There is some wear in some of the high abrasion areas but there is enough rubber left to suggest that it will go 500+ miles. Overall, this is a great tweener shoe that I can do easy runs but pick up the pace when I want to. It's very comfortable on foot and I would wear it to work as a nurse to be on my feet all day as well. Not as light as the Endorphin Speed but with an all terrain outsole.

Keep it up Puma! This is close to a perfect shoe for me. It has enough stack height to be comfortable and provide bounce, but getting ample ground feel. The Nitrogen infused mid-sole is outstanding! Very reminiscent of the Fuel Cell Rebel 2 and 3 materials. And that being the case, make no doubt about it, that material is durable and the mid-sole goes 350+ miles without dying out. Pros: - The mid-sole- just the right stack height and the material is outstanding. - Better Marathon shoe than a lot of super shoes - I would easily reach for this shoe on race day before reaching for the Metaspeed Sky + and several others. For me, getting through a marathon without foot pain and knee pain substantially increases my odds of better performance than any other variable (Metaspeed Sky + for example, wreathing in pain after 3 or 4 miles). Even though this is not marketed as a super shoe, it is light, gives energy return and comfort to boot. - Accommodates runners that weigh more than 125 pounds - Very user friendly! I dislike any shoe that penalizes you if you can’t run the way the shoe wants you too. - Looks - This is a fantastic looking shoe! The color selections and the design draw in compliments. - Upper - The upper is very comfortable and does a nice job of hugging the foot. Also, it hits the sweet spot for me of not being to breezy (for fall runs) or to heavy (for mid-summer runs). Cons: - Just one slight con, the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 and the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2 have a toe box that is almost arrow shaped. This is not causing any hotspots or anything like that. It however does kind of make the feel of the shoe slightly odd. As if the back part of the shoe had a different designer than the front part. As the back part of the shoe is roomy and has just the right amount of snug, then in the front it immediately narrows down (not enough to cause hot spots or pain as the upper stretches nicely) but just feels a bit inconsistent. I am sure however, after a few more miles that the fit will all fall into place. - Price – 160 dollars, wow! Now compared to the 250 dollars plus super shoes, I believe I’m getting in many cases, a better quality and better product period. So comparatively speaking against super shoe prices, these beat them all. However, non-comparatively speaking, 160 dollars for running shoes is a lot of money by any standard. I cant believe how expensive the shoe market is compared to 10-15 even 5 years ago. It is nothing other than ridiculous! Running/Jogging/Walking are activities that should be accessible and have very little requirements for doing. The running shoe manufacturers except for Atreyu running and Sketchers, is simply put, gauging consumers at obscene levels. If 160 is a price tag that is not feasible or you refuse to pay (which is understandable) out of principle, check out the New Balance Fuel Cell Propel 4, the New Balance Fuel Cell Rebel 3’s or the Sketchers Go Run Ride 10 (Currently 90 bucks) which is an excellent shoe. These shoes in my opinion have a lot of the same characteristics as the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 (especially the Fuel Cell Rebel 3’s), and are a good chunk less expensive.

Great all arounderComfortable, fast, do it all shoe! It's been great for long runs and tempo days, while it isn't as fast as a super shoe it's a great trainer to use to get you ready for race day. It's been awesome for almost every type of run for me except easy days-but moderate or faster these are a dream.
