New to the U.S. market, from Down Under, is the Noosa Tri-6. This Aussie cult classic was inspired by Australian Triathlon enthusiasts looking for a lightweight, racer-like yet supportive feel. With fewer materials, the Noosa Tri-6 can be worn barefoot with less potential for irritation and the open mesh keeps the runners foot nice and cool. If the vibrant colors weren't enough for you, the logo stripes consists of material that glows in the dark allowing the runner to be seen. Cool, huh? Lace a pair up for racing, tempos or daily training and run Aussie style.

Product Lifecycle

  • Model update: February 2012, Gel Noosa Tri 7
  • Heritage: Gel Noosa Tri 5

The Gel Noosa Tri 6 is a moderate feature, minimum support shoe designed for speedwork or racing. It is built with a semi-curved shape.

  • Impact Guidance System (IGS) is utilized in the lateral heel to further decouple the shock of the heelstrike.
  • Rearfoot Gel cushioning system is a medium sized silicone based gel that attenuates shock during impact.
  • Forefoot Gel cushioning system is a silicone based gel that attenuates shock during toe-off.
  • Solyte is Asics' top of the line cushioned and responsive midsole. Solyte is very light for the level of cushioning and durability it delivers.
  • DuoMax Support System is located in the medial midfoot and is a dual density midsole that is designed to reduce excess pronation.
  • Space Trusstic System is located at the bottom of the midsole and is made out of thermal plastic. This gender specific midfoot unit controls midsole deformation which allows for natural foot movement while stabilizing the midfoot of the shoe.
  • Propulsion Trusstic is layered over the Space Trusstic System and is a thermal plastic unit that connects the lateral heel to the medial forefoot. Immediately before toe off, the unit undergoes tension which stores energy that is then released to accelerate propulsion of the foot.
  • Impact Guidance System (IGS) is Asics' design philosophy that enhances the foot's natural gait.
  • Guidance Line is a vertical flex groove component of IGS and is primarily articulated in the forefoot to improve gait efficiency.
  • ComforDry Sockliner is made from an anti-bacterial material that not only reduces odor and moisture but also provides additional cushioning.
  • Solyte 55 Last is located in the rear portion of the shoe and has a medium density to deliver a moderately soft feel under the foot. Traditional strobel last completes the forefoot of the shoe.
  • Personal Heel Fit (PHF) is a two layer memory foam lining in the heel collar which creates a personalized fit.
  • Elastic Laces are a classic triathlon feature allowing a runner to put the shoe on quickly, easily, and securely.
  • Asics High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) is located in the heel and is a carbon rubber that offers exceptional durability.
  • DuraSponge is located in the forefoot and is a blown AHAR compound that delivers cushioning, responsiveness, and flexibility.

Customer Reviews

Comments: i got these because they are based upon the ds trainer 14, which i liked very much.  I also like wacky shoes (like vibram bikilas).  Ive noticed that this as well as the ds-trainers start out tight around my heel and toe, but after 50 miles they loosen up and conform to my foot.  great balance between a heavier shoe like the gt-2160, which i find to stiff, and a ds-racer that is not enough shoe for long miles.  ill be stocking up before they discontinue this model

Comments: Very comfortable! I have about 30 miles in them right now and haven't had any problems. I average about 40 miles a week running at 7:00 pace or lower. I have neutral feet and usually wear Brooks but I wanted to try something with a little more support. I'm extremely glad I switched into these. I would recommend these shoes to people who want a light go fast shoe with looks to match its performance. The only complaint I have is wearing them in, even on dirt paths killed my shins the first 20 miles. Since then, absolutely perfect!

Comments: I've done >100miles @ 20mpw on these are about 9:30 pace. I have nothing but great things to say about them. In the first few runs, the toebox's lightweight mess feels kind of annoying, especially with the Asics logo, which can dig into your foot before you get moving. However, after the first few runs the fit became more comfortable and the discomfort went away. Because the toebox is more lightweight, it at times feel a bit bigger but I wouldn't let that get in the way of getting my normal size. I was a 9 in my gel-1150s and the noosa's 9 feels very similar, if not a more 'true' 9. I honestly love them, and would like to try a pair of DS-Trainer's to compare since they are basically the same shoe in many respects, unless of course you're like me and let the aesthetics change your run (the looks help me keep pace).

Comments: Great shoes, fit well, lightweight, very comfortable to run in. Running approximately 25 to 30 miles a week, just as comfortable as my Kayano 16.
