Favorite all-around tempo shoe, but runs bigI love Altras because of their wide toe boxes and narrow heels, but running exclusively in zero drop shoes was causing me problems.
The Cyclone has a perfect 5mm that feels flat enough while reducing muscle and tendon strain. It also lends some forward lean to assist propulsion at higher paces. There's definitely more arch support on the medial side compared to Altra, but for me that's a plus.
This is my favorite shoe for faster paces (for me 5 to 7 min/mile). And it also feels fantastic at slower paces since it's relatively unstructured. I wore it on an easy 19 mile run with zero issues – so while it's an ideal 5k-10K shoe for me, it could handle a half marathon no problem.
The Cylone 3 is so featherlight that it feels cheap and flimsy. But after 130 miles so far they are holding up better than expected with almost no visible wear.
At first I took my usual 1/2 size up for running shoes but they were far too big. I went down to my usual size and they were much better but still too roomy. Then I swapped out the insole for a thicker, heavier one and it made all the difference for my flat feet, taking up excess volume. I probably could have gone down another 1/2 size if using the stock insole since I still have enough room in front of my toe.
That stock insole really is surprisingly thin and flimsy though, and I felt the impact of the asphalt too much at quicker paces. Swapping out to a thicker gel-infused insole helped soften the shoe for me just enough and was worth the tradeoff in extra weight.
To me the worst issue with the Cyclone is that the interior fabric is too slippery which exacerbates the sloppy fit. Sure, maybe a 1/2 down would have mitigated this. But I can't wear polyester or even wool socks with this pair. Ribbed cotton socks are my solution for securing the fit, in addition to lacing up my usual runners' loop.
The flat laces are excellent and more than long enough.
The white sole gets dirty fast, but I don't care. Topo could improve the available colorways, though.
Overall I recommend this shoe if you want a flexible, uptempo trainer or race shoe from 5K-10K, even up to half marathon distance. But, remember that it's designed primarily for a wider, thicker foot.

Light and fast additionFirst pair of Topo runners didn’t disappoint. The peba is fast. This shoe is a good compliment to my plated runners, the Endorphin Speed. I really needed the flexible sole to help increase my foot strength to avoid injury.
Reminds me of a faster NB Rebel v2.
Toe box works well for meI have a scar on the side of my foot and these shoes were roomy enough in the toe box so the scar was not an issue. I used them on my treadmill and on the street.
My one issue is that I live in a place with a lot of sand and the mesh, which keeps my feet cool and feels good, lets sand straight through to inside the shoe.
Not an alternative to AltraWanted to try an alternative to Altra with some drop to ease Achilles issues. The fit at the toe box is similar to Altra but it doesn’t feel like it will have a lot of life in the sole.
Worst part is the rubbing on the inside ball of the foot. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve had to worry about blisters but these have rubbed a blister within 3 miles, even after trying to protect the area.
Not usable for me and probably not returnable because I had to order and ship to Australia.
Also can’t get over that ToPo is named after the founder Tony Post.
