Favorite Fast Neutral Trainer EverThis is a fantastic shoe. The ES4 was fast, but quirky, with an elongated toe and a difficult heel lockdown. With #5, Saucony has eliminated all the awkwardness. This shoe is beautifully balanced and fits me perfectly (though I still have to size up 1/2 size). The upper is supportive but stretchy. Though it's nominally a bit heaver than the 4, it feels lighter, likely due to the better balance since there's no longer several inches of empty toe box up front. It has great energy return and I find it difficult to run slowly. My out-the-door pace has picked up by around 15 seconds.
Others have mentioned the Adidas Evo SL in comparison. I much prefer this shoe. The Adidas gets energy return with tall stack of soft foam, with makes the shoe feel unstable and a bit precarious, particularly for anything other than a straight line. It also has a chunkiness to the midfoot that is completely absent from the Saucony. While the Adidas may be slightly faster, so what? These are trainers, not racing flats.
I've been running seriously for over 20 years, with 7 Bostons under my belt, and this is my favorite fast neutral trainer ever.
feel great on my first runI had used Speed 2 and Speed 3 before. I did not buy Speed 4 due to the review, but I tried Speed 5 based on the experts' reviews. I like it; it feels as great as Speed 3. It is responsive and lightweight. I will recommend it.

GreatThis is my everyday shoe since version 3... 5 has the best upper ever. Excellent shoe for me.

Endorphin Speed 5I have had every Endorphin Speed. I loved the original and second version. The third version was not as fast but still a good shoe. Version 4 was alright for me. I was very excited for the 5th iteration with the OG mutant color way. The Speed 5 has more width which is great for me. This will probably be my last Endorphin Speed. I don’t like it, it’s not as fast and there are better shoes that are cheaper. I’m a heavier runner so these are not good for longer distances for me. To me the Evo SL is a much better shoe. Running Warehouse is always a 5/5 for me though.

Better than the previous versionI didn't love the previous version of the Speed series, it was too stiff. This version fixes that and makes the Speed a versatile and fun shoe again. The midsole feels softer, more bouncy, and going fast feels effortless. Have taken it for 5 runs now and it feels better each time. The only complaint is that the tongue is a bit short.

just okIt's ok... Nothing amazing out of the midsole. Runs a little short in my opinion. May consider going half size up.
Good RideTried these out for a 15 mi run and am happy to say they don’t differ too much from the version 4. The heel has a better lock down and I feel like the plate makes you run more on the forefoot (which to me feels good). However, I don’t know as it has the “springiness” of the prior generation. Will have to give them another try. All in all, good, solid middle distance shoe.

Higher prices with another subpar productAnother subpar product from Saucony. Not any better than the 4 and not worse. Not much has changed. Wait for the Speed 6...
Expected more, could just be me!We are in a time where there are so many great shoes out or coming to market soon and it’s a great time to be a runner! Having liked the older speeds minus the 4 and felt the 3 was much like a daily trainer. And also liked the pb fan in the endo pro 1-3
That said I figured I’d give the ES5 a try and I can say that for me I was not wow’d by what the shoe offered or for me lack of offering , picked this up to be an uptempo and some speed work shoe and that’s where I felt underwhelmed. I felt the shoe to lack much in the way of bounce and not offer much in the way of speed assistance. It felt flat for me and the PB foam lacked excitement, almost felt hard in a sense. First run was a short 5 miles at base pace of 8 min mile and it seemed pretty decent not much more. Second run tried it out for a workout 4 x 10 at 7 min mile with a warmup and cooldown and the shoe felt like it gave nothing back, foam felt sub par and the plate was too flexible. Yes it’s nylon and more a stabilizer and not propulsive like a carbon plate which I didn’t expect it would be , but for the price I expected more. Fit wise was tts but lockdown for me was an issue, had to use the runners loop to achieve heel lockdown in these. Also the tongue while gussets actually shifted on me both runs even after cranking the laces down.
Maybe other brands foams have now surpassed sauconys pb foam. I find the Evo SL to be a much better shoe ride wise, can do pretty much everything kid of pace and it’s a lower price.
Sorry if this is long winded, but wanted to leave my thoughts on this one. Again I think a lot of other brands now have foams that have passed pb by and offer a lot more. I’m sure others may find the ES5 a great shoe, but for me it’s a pass. Thankfully Running Warehouse is outstanding with its customer service! Thanks RW team!!
