great high milage shoeGreat upgrade on V4 both the stability provided by the upper and the improvement of the feel of the foam. Close to V3, which was perfect. No issues with the durability after 200 miles.
Comfortable and versatileThis shoe is fantastic. The upper is very comfortable and the foam is very lively. Great show for easy and hard days. I found the shoe to be stable while still light weight. Significant upgrade from V4 for me

Outsole wear issueI’ve been a loyal New Balance runner for years and owned two pairs of the FuelCell Rebel v4, which I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, the Rebel v5 didn’t live up to expectations. After fewer than 100 miles, the rubber strip on the lateral heel began to separate — a major letdown for a shoe at this price point. While the cushioning and ride were promising, the durability issue forced me to return them.
Best Version YetHaving owned every version of the Rebel, V5 is by far my favorite. This one has the most protective cushioning of the midsoles without sacrificing its most vital benefit, strengthening the feet and lower legs. This version allows you to go further. The upper is perfect. Form fitting without crimping. Breathable and bomb proof. Light and plenty of pop. No durability concerns here with over 150 miles here.
Improved V4; A Terrific Runners Daily DriverFor reference, my favorite running shoe was the Hoka Mach 4. After the Mach went through its redesign, I fell out of love and turned to other brands/shoes. I think the Rebel V5 is noticeable improved over the 4 which was also good, not great. With the 4, I didnt like the somewhat rigid albeit breathable mesh. The cushion was great if maybe a bit much stack but the traction during other than dry conditions was awful. Rebel V5 has considerable stack which is a bit more than my preference but it has even more cushion without sacrificing springyness or push off from the ground.
The upper can be sinched better still providing excellent breathability but also more comfort and lockdown. Additionally, the outsole or bottom of the shoe has improved for better handling in lesser than ideal conditions. I think this shoe is more comfortable, better fitting (sure, wide toebox but not egregious i.e. not unlike an Altra; she feels a sliiight bit wider overall but is true to size) and slight improvements to outsole for better longevity and performance. Were it as easy to slip-on as my 1080V14s (which are def more for lifestyle/comfort than running imo), then these V5s would be my hands down daily driver. They are so versatile. They have a bit more stack than I like in a running shoe, but I also dont like as much cushion and rarely run more than 4-5 miles at a time. Hope this helped! I highly recommend these and much prefer these over the Mach 6s or anything Hoka has put out lately.
Great shoe minus the tow boxI wanted to love this shoe but the toe box is so roomy that it's the first shoe in years to give me pain and on the verge of blisters. Maybe you can overcome it with thick socks but that's not good enough for me.
Love this shoeThis shoe is a phenomenal treadmill shoe! I love it and it felt even better walking immediately after the run. This shoe does more than gets out the way, it leads the way!! I’m so glad I bought it!

Most Comfortable running shoeI have plantar fasciitis and when I’m running in the shoe, I feel no pain in my heels. Whether I’m doing sprint work or long Runs she feels amazing at my feet. I highly recommend them. I have two pair.

Good for lifestyle, not so much for runningReally wanted to like this shoe because I loved the Rebel v4, even with the sizing issues. NB fixed the sizing issue, but the added stack has made this shoe sloppy under foot. However, it looks awesome, so it will be added to the lifestyle rotation.
Tighter fitI normally wear a 10.5 2E. With V3 and V4 I was able to wear a 10.5 D. The 10.5 D of the V4 fit my foot better than any other shoe ever has. I tried a 10.5 D with the V5 and it was too tight so I had to get the 10.5 2E. They fit better but I need to put some more miles on them. The extra cushion is nice.
Great shoe definitely put in your rotationI was incredibly excited to try the New Balance Rebel V5, especially in this stunning colorway. It's hands down one of the best-looking shoes I've ever owned—definitely a solid 10/10! With over 40 pairs of running shoes in my collection, this shoe ranks impressively high among daily trainers, placing it firmly in my top three.
I took them out for my first run today and achieved a personal best in my 5K with a time of 21:34! It's hard to find much to criticize. I did expect a bit more 'pop' compared to the Adidas Evo SL, but I truly enjoyed the Rebel V5. The laces are an upgrade, and I found them more agile when hitting corners than the Evo SLs.
In my personal ranking, I would place the Rebel V5 at number two, just behind Adidas. Overall, I love this shoe—it's not only stylish but also delivers a comfortable, responsive run. I give it an 8/10 for an exceptional running experience!
the rebel is backI have worn every version of the rebel and it has changed quite a bit over 5 models. This one brings back the fun. It's a perfect daily trainer. Model 4 was a sloppy upper and the length was too short and the shoe was just a dull run. Model 5 fixes the upper, length is true to size, and its just plain fun to run in. Bouncy and perfect.

Shoes are great color is misleadingThese are great shoes and super comfortable. Toebox is roomy and foam feels great. My issue is the 'urgent red" color depicted in the pictures is really neon salmon in person.
Not in the EVO SL or Aero Glide 3 leagueThe rebel series overpromises and under delivers. It’s a good shoe but not a wow shoe. Until they move on to a tpu or tpee foam fuel cell will always lack no matter if you say it has a peba blend. It’s good for what it is but places like BITR, RW etc hype up NB for obvious reasons.
Tripping the light fantasticThis is my first pair of NB running shoes. I typically run in Nike Pegs, and have been upgrading every time a new generation comes out. But I read good things about these Rebels, and thought why not? I’ll mix it up a bit.
Firstly, the color isn’t quite as red as I had envisioned. More of a fluorescent pinkish-red. But I don’t really mind. I wear a lot of dark colors and neutrals in my day to day existence, so run time is my chance to peacock a little bit. Although some old guy took notice of them and scowled.
But these shoes. Easily the most comfortable ones I’ve ever had right out of the box. A definite difference from my Pegs, which have more ground feel. These put a spring in your step, and are like running on little clouds. Weight is absurdly light. I was very impressed, and had zero issues with them. Overall I’d highly recommend these. I’m still going to use my Pegs, but these are definitely going into the rotation for my hard surface runs, and I’ll definitely be looking at New Balance in the future.
