Fool Me Once…The first version of this shoe was indeed fast, but also had plenty of issues with the sizing, lockdown, and upper. The new upper is fantastic, the foam feels better underfoot, and the new lug shape and depth is very much appreciated! There’s still a little room for improvement in terms of the heel lockdown and design, but it’s not any worse than the first one in that regard.
Considering the price of other trail super shoes, and how unsuper most of them feel on foot (and even in hand sometimes), this is probably going to be a fantastic choice for most runners in most situations. Obviously not made for techy downhills through massive boulder fields, but if you can see the dirt, you’ll be flying.

Disappointing step back from current ASUI was very excited to try the new model after going through five pairs of the current ASU’s in the past 18 months. The sizing is drastically different, being much shorter in the same size as the current model. My size 13 is also just over 7% heavier/23 grams than the current. The upper is significantly less breathable. It’s hard to feel any air flow when trying to blow through it. The eye stays are also much longer, which seems strange. The padding around the heel area is a clear improvement. The tongue is also slightly more padded, which is nice. With the sizing changes I won’t be able to run in the new model and the 23 gram increase in weight is also a huge step back for their premier race shoe.
