Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.

Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

not worth the moneygreat shoe in the beginning, but the foam in the heel fails quickly for a $150.00 shoe. Foam failed before having 200 miles on the shoe. No help from ASIC to address the failing foam. Waste of money.

750+ Miles Logged and Loved Ever StepI'm no running shoe expert but I have put over 750 miles on these in the past year and they have held up great, kept me injury free, and been wonderfully snappy, cushy, and stylish the whole time. To each their own but I loved this shoe and am buying another pair.

The Mileage EatersI just finished my marathon training season with these as my primary training shoes. I put over 350 miles in them, and did a fair mix of speed training, tempos, and long runs. These shoes are deceptively fast for how soft they feel, and they really shine on the long runs. I would not recommend them as a track shoe as there are other shoes that are cheaper and more suitable to that (brooks launch). For that 7-10 mile distance where most marathon trainers shine, these are slightly better than the New Balance Rebel v4s I tested because of the spring and downhill running feel. In my long runs, these were my go-to because they felt nice and light for how much cushion they brought. They are very comfortable out of the box and broke in well and never lost their spring. Some may not like the trampoliney feel but I found them very stable for how high they ride.

Love 'emSuper comfy shoes: the cushioning is amazing. I wear them for all my easy and distance runs and they’ve done well on fartleks too. Perfect do-it-all trainer for my rotation. I’m using them as my everyday shoes in the off season as well.

Buy These for XC SZNI am a high school senior running about 50 miles a week and these shoes carried me during XC season. I would highly recommend. I used these for my long runs (usually about 12ish miles) and easy runs (7-8 miles) . Wouldn't really use these for anything faster than 6:30 pace other than strides, but they were great for the use that I got them for.

UnforgivingCut a piece of 2x4 to the length of your foot, add a strip of rubber to the bottom, an inch of foam to the top and secure on your foot with loose sandal straps, then go for a run. This is what this shoe felt like to me. Really hard on ankles and shins.

I really like the shoe, but!Five stars for Running Warehouse, but 3-1/2-ish stars for the Novablast 5s. I ran 5 in them on Thursday, steady state with 5 x 0:20 strides. My take then, "I like these shoes!" I got them for non-carbon long run shoes. So, I was looking forward to running in them this morning (08/23/25). The first 5 felt just like Thursday, but then the slipping start. Here's the catch, I live on the Gulf of Mexico, in Mississippi, and my sweat rate is ~1 LB per 15 minutes. By mile 6 the shoes were soaked with sweat, and the sweat was running out onto the outer sole which was causing the slippage. Also, I was slipping around inside the shoes. The final 7 miles was a no-traction and weird slipping around struggle. I usually run in Puma Deviate Nitros, Adidas Bostons, Nike Invincibles, and this has never happened before with those shoes. So, the tread on these shoes do not like damp conditions, and the interior materials kind of act like sponges. Long story short, while I'm tempted to return them, I'll save them for shorter recovery runs and longer runs when it cools off down here.
