Great service, good new iterationMany reviews say this is a callback to the Altra 2.5. I'd say those are probably the closest comparison. They feel more rigid than the 2.5s, but not inflexible. Definitely less rigid than the 3, most notably in the upper (I actually liked the upper in the 3 more). They are very light and seemed responsive the first couple weeks of running. I have extra wide feet, so I have to size up half a size and I removed the insoles. I did have to send my first pair back to Running Warehouse because the seam where the tongue meets the toe box on one of my shoes was coming apart after only about 40 miles of running. Running Warehouse promptly sent me a new pair free of charge. Overall, I think I'll enjoy the shoe. They look nice, are very light, and feel close to previous iterations of the shoe, which makes them feel familiar. I do wish the mid foot was slightly wider for my wide feet, I'd like the upper to be a bit firmer like the previous model, and I'm a little worried about durability. I'm hoping they will last me at least 500 miles like all their predecessors. I think it'll be a decent shoe, but time will tell whether or not they'll hold up.

Great service and product! This is the 2nd purchase I have made from Running Warehouse. Very fast and no problems. Love the Altra Escalante 4 shoes and good price. I am glad to have a reliable alternative to Amazon! Thanks!

Good for short to medium runsAbout 35 miles of mostly 3 mile easy runs, some strides, and a 10k PB! Lightweight and comfy. Only complaint is the tongue is thin and floppy and wants to scrunch down over my toes. Not sure I would do much more than 10k at a time in these but I like them for the 5-10k range.

Love this version!!This is one of my favorite Escalantes. Very comfortable and look great! I have always enjoyed the style of the Escalante over the other Altras. I also love that I can run fast, slow and walk in them with maximum comfort.

Comfort with only one flawThe Altra Escalante 4 is a very light and comfortable shoe. I bought it to use as an everyday wear vs as a running shoe because of the wide toe box and I would prefer more support while running. It is a quality shoe, and I would recommend it, but it does have one flaw which others have mentioned as well (in my research). The tongue is very finicky and moves around too easily especially when putting on the shoe.

Great Shoe!I used to run in nothing but New Balance. Now, I’m not sure I’ll go back to them. The Escalante is a great all around shoe for me. 43yo/6ft/185lbs Wide toe box is a welcome change as my previous shoes got more and more narrow. The low heel-toe drop is awesome and they’ve got just the right amount of cushion where it doesn’t feel like I’m “beating” a run (treadmill or street). Even after my runs, they’re a comfortable walking shoe. I’m a pilot, so luggage space can be a premium and this is the *only* shoe I have to pack for being on the road!

Not as good as prior versionsi have worn 2 pairs of the Escalante for many years. My size previously was 11.5 but when the new Escalante 4 arrived, they were much smaller and the cover was stiff and rubbed the tops of my toes. I returned them and received a size 12, which are ok in terms of length and toe box width, but the tongue always creases and they are not as comfortable across the top of my arch. I kept them because i went on an overseas trip and needed them. Probably won't buy another pair of Altra's because i suspect the product consistency has dropped off.

Altra bringing excellence back to Escalante!I am a long time wearer of Altra Escalantes. This generation brings a much more secure mesh upper and the sole harkens back to the firmer sole of the first gen Escalantes. Even the laces are better quality and don’t untie as easily. The toe box is roomy as expected from this brand and zero drop ensures a proper foot fall. Thanks Altra for getting back to the basics with the Escalante 4!

Escalate 4 UpdatesI run 30-60 miles a week, supinate, and weigh 150 lbs. The updated Escalante 4 continues the Escalante tradition of wide toe-box, and zero drop - but does so with a much firmer ride. Felt like it took >15 miles to break these shoes in. Outer sole wear appears to be minimally better than the 3. Uppers were similar - but the design changed a bit. The upper feel and lacing is similar to the 3. Overall - a minimal update - which is good.

A Classic AltraI've been using various Altra running shoes for quite a few years. I've become a bit frustrated the last few years because some Altras have definitely lost the wider toe box. However, these Escalante 4's have do indeed have the classic wider toebox. I had some very early versions of the Escalantes, and these 4's are just like those. Yes! There is moderate cushion, zero drop, and a wide toe box. Perfect for road running, in my opinion. I've put quite a few miles on these shoes, and so far, so good! I for sure recommend these!

The best all day shoe! The zero drop shoes with wide toe boxes are fantastic! I'm on my feet from about 8:00 in the morning until 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. and I still feel great at the end of the day thanks to these shoes.

Altra first timerI have been slowly working my way to lower drop shoes, and finally took the plunge with the Altra Torin. I love them! I am a casual serious runner, running about 20-25 miles a week. I’m not a racer but I’m not a jogger. I have a relatively narrow foot with high arches, and these are SO comfortable for me. I love the room in the toe box. I’ve only put about 50 miles on them so far, but have had zero aches or twinges. They’re a pleasure to put on!

Definite upgrade!I have the Escalante 3 in black in addition to the Escalante 4 in gray which I have been using for a couple weeks and I am a huge fan of the Escalante 4. They are firmer underfoot which I like, and they are wider too. Durability looks like it will be similar, but time will tell. I'm training for a road marathon and plan to run it in these shoes.

Looking for a flat shoeI wanted a flat shoe for training but also something I could run in(short distance). So far it's been great for training & I just ran some sprints, so I will see how feet feel! Felt good running!

Escalante returns to its rootsThe new Altra Escalante 4 is more similar to the first Escalante than the intervening models which had seemed to move away from the original design. This is a great reset in my opinion. The original was my first zero drop shoe and definitely converted me, but it has become harder in recent years to find something that worked as well so I am very happy to have the Escalante 4 filling this gap. Especially as the overall trend seems to be for higher stack and rocker designs, I am pleased to find a minimal shoe that works for me.

Comfy and great for low drop needsIt is really hard to find low heel to toe drop shoes right now with all the plated shoes, and these are a great option. Good amount of cushioning, and great space in the toe box. I have never used Altra shoes before, and would definitely recommend based on these shoes.
