Comfortable but too firmSuper nice the Altra famous toe box!!!…but after a few runs I couldn’t stand that such a high cushion was still firm underneath…had to return them trying Torin 8…we’ll see…

BEST shoe EXCEPT achilles rub issue!Im someone who was running road in my hoka speedgoats but wanted to try a foot shaped shoe and not wear out my trail grip needlessly on the cement. These fit the bill. I love how responsive the foam is. Perfect from everything from intervals to long runs. The achilles rub issue is fixed for me with either preventive blister pads or socks with the big achilles pad things (like u know those ankle socks with the sticky outy heel tabs?). Thats one design flaw that i hope they fix. Bc this is a dreamy shoe for those of us that want a foot shaped shoe with cushion and a nonzero drop!!! The fact that im still raving about them in spite of this significant flaw tells you about how strongly i feel otherwise.
Perfect! Knee feels great!There are no words to describe how much I love this shoe. Tore up my knee last year (also worked through a bout of plantar fasciitis), but noticed, when I walked barefoot, my knee didn't hurt. That's how I found Altra Shoes. Hesitated on size, but I like my shoes to just 'fit' with no slippage (in a size 7). Put these shoes on, and thought I was imagining how great they felt. I was used to a 4mm heel-toe offset, and was pleased to see the 4 mm drop on this FWD VIA. Now, even though I am a runner, I replaced the shoe insert with a Scholl's walker insert (that works best for me). Love the 'rocker motion', and can't imagine a better pair of running shoes.

The Firmest Max Cushion ShoeThe midsole is super firm, harsh, and stiff (feels just as firm if not more than the Via Olympus 1). The heel lock down isn't the best and I had to really yank the laces down to keep my heels in place. The lacing inst the best I've encountered with Altra (The third and fourth lace eyelets are arranged/manufactured in a way where it's very difficult to get a good lock down since they're so close to the collar and the laces are stiff and made the runners loop difficult to tie). It took me 15min to tie the shoes to get a decent lockdown. The rocker feels non-existent unlike the other EXP shoes. Feels like a dual density foam being firm in the fore foot and more firm towards the heel. For the wider feet folks, this shoe feels more standard fit than original. Been running in Altras for the last decade this shoe took me by surprise especially since they're marketed as a max cushion shoe (similar to the Via Olympus 1). Nothing maxed cush with this shoe.

Solid ShoeI enjoy this shoe a lot. It's firmer than I expected, but I like firm shoes. I have done two runs, one 6 mile and one and 12, there was no flattening out of the midsole.
The fit is very wide, I had to crank the laces down which is my only issue. Size down if between sizes. The outsole is very grippy and has shown no signs of wear.
If you like super soft shoes this is not for you. If you appreciate a more responsive ride, I highly recommend.

Surprisingly light and snappyI had long sworn off Altra as zero drop does not agree with my running style
But decided to give these a try as they have a 4mm drop (not sure during running if that proves material)
I like the shoe
Very light weight, I like the upper and midsole
The foam is a tad firmer than what I’m used to, but has a nice energy return!
The only downside is the shape of the toe box, while generous in width; it oddly shaped
No human foot has the need for such a weirdly long big toe and then the arch/slope of the shoe curves down too aggressively so that your 3rd, 4th and pinkie toes are compressed
It’s like a big toe taper
Beyond that, it’s a shoe I’ll keep in my rotation to run but never to casually use

Not for meThese shoes are a pass for me. I had been a fan of Altra for years. The owners changed and they haven't worked for me since. I keep trying new shoes that come out, but no luck.
The biggest problem with the Forward Via is the shape of the toe box. It is too short on the outside toes and too long at the big toe. Like I said I have worn Altra before and loved the footshape toe box. I even wear a foot shaped sneaker when I am not running. So the problem is not a footshape toe box in general, it is just the way Altro chose to design this toe box.
There are a few things I do like about this shoe. The fit in the midfoot and heel is good. They seem to be breathable. The lacing and tounge are good. I do like the under foot feel. They are nice and light. I do like that they have a low drop as opposed to a zero drop.
Maybe the toe box fit will work for someone else. They just don't work for me.
