A game changerThis is the best long distance trail runner I've ever ran in. Hoka nailed it with this one but $275 is ridiculous.

Great super shoe that is comfortableUsually with super shoes there is a compromise between comfort and performance. The adidas TERREX Agravic Speed Ultra is a great example of this. Very performant shoe but it was not very comfortable. The HOKA Tecton X 3 is a shoe that is very performant as well, but also extremely comfortable. HOKA seems to know what they are doing with their fit and feel. The gaiter is incredible and saved my life at the Javelina Jundred keeping the sand and rocks out of my shoe. The full super foam is so soft but also has a great deal of responsiveness. I like the way this shoe feels on the roads too--this will definitely be my winter trainer. Would definitely recommend checking this one out if you want something that can go the distance comfort wise and can also perform when you want to pick up the pace (or just be more economical).

AwesomBeen trying to find a good racer and so for the tecton 3 has hit all the marks though at 275 is a little expensive but compared to all the other carbon racers the tecton has risen above. I got a little over 30 miles in it with 2 hours bring the longest run on technical terrain . It’s fast nimble and comfortable. Will see how durable it will be since running in NE the trails can be hard on trail runners.

Lively Trail Shoe w/Unusual SizingI only use the Tekton X3 for relatively non-technical trails. There's just too much lateral roll for confidence. On technical trails, I much prefer the lateral stability and ground feel of my Salomon Genesis. The Tekton X3 is a fun, lively shoe with unusual sizing. I wear size 11 in Genesis and Hoka Speedgoat 5, and when I purchased sight-unseen the size 11 Tektons, I was floating in them. I had to actually size down a 1/2 size-- very likely because the forefoot is much more spacious than any other Hoka I've worn (which is nice!). I do develop a blister on my right heel-- I attribute this to X3 not having a traditional padded heel counter. But Leukotape fixes this issue. I absolutely love the Matryx upper, and really like the built-in gaiter. Lace bite wasn't too bad-- despite there not being a traditional tongue. Hoka should move the pull loop from the front of the gaiter to the back of the gaiter (or make loops for both pull tabs). I do recommend this shoe as something fun to add to your shoe rotation-- if you can get it to fit your foot properly.

If the shoe fits w wear itThe Tecton X 3 truly has trail supershoe qualities IF it fits your feet. Tecton X 3 has far superior rebound/energy return to the Nike Ultrafly and also beats it in technical terrain. You really feel the spring when descending and on the flats, but for me it didn’t feel great on climbs, probably because of the stack height. Pretty decent on technical terrain aa I mentioned, but shoes like S Lab pulsar and NNormal Kjerag would laugh at it, particularly at a race like Speedgoat. If they fit well, it’s a great choice for racing.

Sizing and DurabilityI'm on my third iteration of this shoe, purchased at retail pricing. Had to size up a half-size as the first pair were way too small. The second pair had great sizing, decent lockdown, but then the outsole on the left shoe beneath the big toe started to delaminate within the first few miles of the run. On my third pair and questioning the durability of a shoe that will set you back $300. Crazy!

Dry trails onlyI got the X3 from a local running store here in Colorado, and I'd say THIS shoe will change the trail/ultra/shoe scene. The foam is great, the gaiter works, and if you can figure out the right sizing, it's an absolute banger.
Cautionary note: if you have water on course, then I'd think about using this, as the rear bumpers (medially, specially) can chafe the back of the ankles when wet, and the entire shoe gets a bit heavy and squishy. Some water is getting into the midsole and it just stay wet in there for way too long. Unfortunate that HOKA didn't keep the toe area drain holes from the X2 in their new X3 design, but maybe we'll see that appear again in the X4 (?). Foam is amazing, stable enough, great grip, but you've been warned if you do water crossings!

Even better than the Tecton X 2First run out of the box was great. Improved foam and fit from the already solid Tecton X 2. Gator seemed strange at first, but then you appreciate the support. Great shoe.
