Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have a built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stable

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

It's here! The answer to what you've been searching for — the La Sportiva Prodigio Pro is a high-performance trail running shoe for the mountains and technical terrain. By skipping a plate or stiffening element and keeping stack height reasonable, the Prodigio Pro is out to prove that less really is more among the best trail running shoes. It shares the same stack height and drop as its standard Prodigio sibling, but delivers a more energetic, cushioned, and grippy running experience.

Easily the most responsive trail running shoe in La Sportiva's lineup, the Pro employs a dual-foam XFlow Speed midsole. Composed of two nitrogen-infused supercritical foams, this powerhouse aims to redefine propulsive performance that's been expertly tuned for variable and challenging trail surfaces.

Equally exciting, the Prodigio Pro debuts Power Wire technology for the upper. Its lightweight and durable fibers, together with a midfoot wrapping system, create a precise and stable fit. While the upper enables you to transfer energy through the shoe, the extra-sticky FriXion White rubber outsole ensures all that power is delivered efficiently to the ground.

Add the responsive and ultralight La Sportiva Prodigio Pro to your quiver and elevate your ultra and mountain racing game today.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

Technologies

MIDSOLE

  • XFlow Speed builds on XFlow supercritical EVA as a carrier frame, amplified with a generous core of supercritical TPU for extra energy.
  • SpeedFilm is a full-length, polyurethane-coated, nylon mesh to provide a thin and lightweight layer of impact protection from underfoot rocks.
  • Design and geometry details include foam sidewalls and a wide base for a secure and steadied experience, as well as the absence of a strobel layer. Eliminating this extra layer saves weight and allows more direct energy transfer to the responsive foam.

OUTSOLE

  • FriXion White rubber, also known as FriXion XF 2.0, is the brand's stickiest compound. It creates a full-length one-piece design for long-lasting grip.
  • 4 mm lugs are deep, broad, and widely-spaced for all-terrain capability, including technical and soft ground, while retaining swift runnability for smoother trail sections.

UPPER

  • Power Wire material combines TPU and polyester yarns for a lightweight, breathable, and secure fit.
  • Midfoot wrapping system provides snug foot lockdown for confident and efficient power transfer to the ground.
  • Overall, this style is vegan, not just for the upper. As a brand, La Sportiva is committed to sustainability. North American operations are Certified Carbon Neutral, Italian HQ is 100% powered with renewable energy, and the brand is an enduring member of Bluesign, 1% for the Planet, and other commitments.

UpdateI have been running the trails in these for a couple of months now. They are showing zero wear! They actually saved me from rolling my ankle on a steep, rocky downhill which surprised me. Plus as I'm a bit heavier than normal (for running), they are saving my body from pounding. For training or racing in the mountains I think they are perfect.

Almost perfectI'm a bit floored by the review that says the Salomon S/Lab Genesis is identical to this shoe. I had hoped that was true since the Prodigio Pro is sold out in most sizes, however I found they could not be more different! The PP is much softer (but not too soft like the Adidas Agravic Speed Ultra), has a much roomier toe box and is lightyears more comfortable. I was appalled to be lead so astray, the Salomon's went right back. My only issue with the PP is I find the ankle too tight. After much stretching of the fabric I was able to get through a 50 miler in one pair but not sure I'll make it through 100.

Copy CatBasically a clone of the S/Lab Genesis.. If blindfolded, couldn't tell much difference.. Foam might require a break in period.. Felt a bit stiffer than expected on a 3 mile test run, then a 30k race.. Normally a Salomon US10.. Went 43.5(10.5) here.. Fit was fine.

Best Trail shoe everThese are amazing, they have become my quiver of one shoe. The fit is perfect for my medium to wide feet, I haven’t had to tie them since the initial lacing

Great release!A really great release from La Sportiva! The standout features for me are the midsole and outsole - the ride and the grip are really dialed in. On technical terrain (why I bought them), they feel light, nimble, and like hopping through rocks and roots, up and down mountains, but still enough cushion for long days. I've grown tired of all the higher stack releases from all the manufacturers as, in my opinion, shoes need to be lower to the ground and non-plated for technical terrain. The upper is the only place I'd like to see a minor update. The fit feels great on moderate terrain (and no hot spots anywhere), but I didn't feel quite as secure as I want on technical terrain and descending. The overall shape is very fitted and comfortable and you feel like it's the perfect fit when you step in, but there's really no give in the material or stretch, so what you get is what you get. Tightening down the laces doesn't help much as the material doesn't give, which on the plus side they don't absorb much water and dry quickly. I agree with others that sizing is tricky. I'm normally a 10.5 and went with a 44.5, which feels fine, but I'd like to try on a 45 for comparison as my toes are a little close to the end. Looking forward to more miles in these!

Incredible!I've worn these for a couple of weeks now on dirt, rocks, snow, and ice. The traction and feel of these shoes is awesome! One of my concerns, after proper sizing, was that they might feel unstable going down hills on technical terrain. I have "floppy ankles." These shoes feel totally in control---even better than the low to the ground shoes that I usually prefer for this very reason. The upper does seem as though it's going to hold up well. I want to buy another pair before its sold out or "updated!"

New favorite trail shoeTook this out for a first run, 43km on the Western States trail with 2100m of vert. Super comfortable, great cushion, rock solid grip on the technical descents, great drainage after several water crossings and some tramping in the snow. There may be faster shoes for the elites, and I may still go with a carbon plate for 50k and shorter, but this will be my shoe for 100k and longer.

Fantastic Trail Racing shoeI recently bought this shoe. I also own last years La Sportiva Prodigo. This years pro model is a major upgrade. It’s fast, has the ability to run hard packed trails , technical and roads. The nitrogen-based foam is incredible. My impression of this shoe is it has the ability to be a fantastic trail trainer not just a racing shoe. Its biggest feature is the ability to handle multiple types of terrain. I bought this shoe specifically to race this year's Pikes Peak Ascent in Colorado, having looked at multiple brands - even shoes with a carbon plate. I am convinced this was the best shoe for versatility, cost, and value. My only complaint is be careful on size being since it is a European Italian company. I wear a size 8 or EU 41 usually. I had to exchange and purchase a 42 which is US mens 9. Sizing can vary so buyer be aware. Otherwise, I think La Sportiva got it right. This trail shoe could be shoe of the year in my opinion.

True to SizeI'm glad I didn't size up. I always wear an 8 in running shoes and boots (for socks). Casual shoes are 7.5. 8.5 would have been too large. These immediately feel great. The upper looks like it will wear well. The main thing I wanted to mention was size since it wasn't clear if you size up from street shoes, which seems normal, or from regular running shoe size.

Fast, Versatile Swiss Army Knife of the TrailHaving tested (and loved) the original Exum Ridge prototypes WAY back in the day, I moved away from LaSportiva to brands like Salomon, Arc'teryx, and HOKA over the years. But the Prodigio Pros have brought me back to the brand in a big, big way. In the last 2 weeks, they've quickly become my go-to shoe for longer efforts and for anything involving technical descents. The fit is snug in all the right places and spacious where you want it to be with minimal side-to-side play when things get rowdy. The midsole foam, which I hope holds up over time, gives just the right amount of pop on every stride without feeling like a marshmallow. And the sole? Frixion has always been the best and this is no exception. My only gripe is that the upper seems like it might get hot in warmer weather, but we'll have to see about that... And I really hope they make more colors (like the original Prodigio). Love this shoe!
