  • Smooth Trails & FireroadsSmooth Trails & Fireroads

Designed to handle most trail runs, these shoes prioritize comfort and a smooth ride. These shoes are great for anything from smooth singletrack, park trails, and fireroads making them ideal for those who run from their doorstep on streets before hitting the trail.

  • Rocky & Technical TrailsRocky & Technical Trails

These shoes are best used for hard, rugged trails such as shale, granite or sandstone where grip on smooth surfaces and underfoot protection are important.

  • Soft & Muddy TrailsSoft & Muddy Trails

Designed for use in muddy, soggy conditions, these shoes feature very aggressive outsoles that dig deep into soft ground for exceptional traction.

Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.

Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral Running Shoes

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stability Running Shoes

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

Joining the ZoomX party this cross country season is the Nike ZoomX Dragonfly XC, an elite-level cross country spike that's engineered to unlock your true potential on meet day. It features many of the same technologies as the highly accomplished track Dragonfly. So, the Dragonfly XC is primed to deliver the same explosive underfoot experience in a more durable package that's best suited to handle the elements out on course.

Starting in the midsole, the Dragonfly XC is equipped with full-length ZoomX cushioning for excellent protection and responsiveness. Its Pebax plate offers a wider base for stabilization along with a snappy toe-off that gets your legs turning over quickly and efficiently.

Outsole pieces protect the midsole and offer all the traction you need to traverse even the wet and muddy courses you may encounter. The 6-pin design of the original Dragonfly is retained, now with a secondary set of removable pyramid-shaped pins to keep you nimble in sloppy conditions. A minimal upper wraps this spike up, keeping weight to a minimum while also being mindful of the elements. Its internal midfoot wrap gives you the confidence to take tight turns and stay agile as you separate yourself from the pack.

At the end of the day, the Nike ZoomX Dragonfly XC delivers a high powered ride from start to finish, making it perfect for premium performance throughout your next cross country season.

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

keeps you goingThese spikes are absolutely FIENDISH. They quite literally keep you going. and I can vouch. as of the time of this review, my last 2 meets (and the only meets i've run in so far), have been the hilliest meets of the season. now i'm not much of a walker, but the hills were tough and i was tempted to walk. ha, I was planning on a stopping point after the 2 mile mark, but I kept going. I couldn't make myself stop. you will keep moving, and if its hilly, it was painful. but you will not stop, and that is special. These spikes have an insane plate in them and that is what makes you move faster and consistently. these are definitely worth your time and money. Also they are very comfy.

Solid SpikeGood spike, similar to the original dragonfly though these seem to have much more cushion, stability and traction. The only downside to this is a significant increase in weight and bulk. Would definitely recommend this for challenging courses but maybe for courses that are more forgiving and dry, the original would be better.

zoom x dragonflyThese are seriously one of the best spikes. I really like the different type of spike used on these and they are more comfortable than most of the ones I’ve used so far, not that any are “comfortable” but these are great. I highly recommend them.

Great spikesThey are super comfortable and fit very well. Just wear socks when you run in them so you don't get blisters on your heels.

Caused BlistersWe always order this brand of shoe and have never had issues in the past. My son wore them for three events, each time they caused severe blisters on the back of his heel. He has never had this issue in the past.

Gives blistersI bought these for my HS son. The shoe gave blisters on both heals. They fit perfectly but shoes have “ high” spots in the heal section that rub. It is the way the shoe is made. We always order 2 different sizes when getting shoes so a sure to get the correct size. Both sets are made exactly with the same high spots in the heel. If they did not cause blisters they would be great. A shoe of the quality and price should be perfect and not require mole skin and blister bandage.

Great choiceI recently purchased these in 7.5 US women for my 16 year old daughter. No complaints overall, she was able to wear them right out of the box for one of her cross-country meets with zero complaints. My daughter loves the feel (light weight), zero break in period and the look! She has worn the Nike Dragonfly spikes (different models each year) for cross-country in past years. She keeps requesting the Dragonfly spikes because she loves everything about them and this current model has not disappointed (loves them too).

Getting job doneFinally found the right fit for wide foot 15 year old. He’s a toe runner and these have been great so for for cross, three new PRs! Hoping they last for track in the spring. Personally I don’t like to purchase Nike anymore but glad these work when no other brands fit right.

Great XC SpikeAn excellent transition from the track to the XC course. My son uses both Dragonfly versions. We're going to experiment this spring to see how the XC dragonfly does on the steeplechase. If it goes well, we'll save the regular dragonfly's for strictly track events and use the XC version for the wet steeplechase. We're hoping that special bottom will help on that wet barrier.

Dragonflies are the best racing showMy daughter had the track/field dragonfly and loved them and wanted to try the XC version. She was running with the vaporfly in races (we are in california) but they don't have grip and tighter profile for running on dirt and grass. She said they fit like a glove and the added forefront curve was better suited for XC racing. She didn't run with spikes, but on the right course this would add more traction. These are her new racing XC spike!

Love’emI love my dragonflies. I hadn’t worn spikes in 20 yrs, but bought them on sale for an XC race and they were perfect. Super lightweight, but enough shoe that I wasn’t wrecked for days after the race.

Overrated. Just Get the Track DragonfliesThe spikes are a major letdown. Unlike their track counterparts, these spikes lack the much-touted bounce and responsiveness, feeling super dead underfoot with every stride. The disappointment hit hard as I was stuck using them for the entire cross-country season, enduring a sad reminder of their subpar performance with every race. To anyone considering these, save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere.

Pretty good shoe but spike plate brokeOne of the most cushioned spikes I have ran in. They feel light throughout an entire race. My one grievance is that the spike plate is super weak. For reference I run on a lot of bad courses with gravel and sometimes concrete and the spike plate broke and like the threading is broken and the spike is half way inside the shoe.

The best XC spike out thereThese are THE spikes. They're light, responsive, and breathable. The carbon plate really does make a difference and at first it almost feels like you're skipping to the finish line; they're bouncy. I wore these for practices and races for a whole season (2-3 times a week), and there's only one spot where it's starting to unravel: that's pretty good in my opinion. Not the mention the colors are fire.

Great XC racersThere is reason so many top XC racers wear this spike. They are super comfortable, great toe box, breathable and feather weight. Great in mud and rain, and even better on firm grass.

Nike Dragonfly XCThe Dragonfly is a great shoe. The top of the heel was rigid and cut into the back of his foot causing it to bleed and giving him a big blister.

Fast But Break-In RequiredThese shoes are well designed compared to its model dragonfly. The plate is less aggressive and the rubber really makes the traction excellent for XC. I used it for one race, but one issue I ran into was the fact that it really makes your foot sore if it's not broken in. But I was able to race in these by not tightening up the laces as much as I wanted too. The 3/8 spikes work really well on a grass course: you don't even feel them. The spikes' upper has some more durability and protection for the longer distance. Heat dissipates really well and it feels great with the responsive ZoomX foam. You do notice that your calves get more tired in the race than opposed to a carbon plated racing shoe. Overall, however, they're an excellent shoe for the 5K.

Nike Dragonfly Zoom XCVery good spikes. I got a 20 second PR the first time I ran in them in the 2 mile on the track. Also there’s no one someone would have to amputate anything from running in these spikes unless they were like 10 sizes too small
