Cushioning Level

  • Cushioning level, or stack height, refers to how much shoe is between your foot and the ground. For this category, we reference the amount of cushioning below the forefoot as the heel height will be equal to or greater than the forefoot height.
Learn more about stack heights and how we measure them.

  • Barefoot

0-13mm. The Shoe generally does not have a midsole and feels like there is no cushioning. This shoe is all about feeling the ground underfoot.

  • Minimal

14-18mm. The shoe has a thin midsole that allows for a natural running experience. Racing shoes and minimalist shoes are common here. These shoes offer a feeling of being connected to the road or trail.

  • Low

19-23mm. The shoe has a slightly cushioned feel and may feature added cushioning technologies. Performance training shoes and some trail shoes are common here. These offer protection during footstrike but prioritize a lightweight, grounded experience.

  • Medium

24-28mm. These shoes have a stack height that fall near the middle of the spectrum. The shoes in this category are verstaile and great for all types of runs and distances.

  • High

29-34mm. The shoe has a thick midsole and ample cushioning. These shoes are highly protective and absorb more impact than the body.

  • Maximal

35mm plus. The shoe has an extremely thick midsole and extra cushioning. The focus is on protection and soft foam underfoot with hardly any ground feel.

Stability Level

  • Neutral

Neutral shoes support the foot through a normal range of arch collapse and generally do not have a built-in technology to correct movement.

  • Stable

Stability shoes are a great option for those who overpronate or need added support. These shoes help to limit the inward rolling motion of the ankle while running or walking and assist in guiding the foot straight through the gait cycle.

Product Details:

Don't you love it when a shoe's name tells you exactly what it is? Well, you don't have to be a pro or run ultras to enjoy its benefits, but you can trust that's exactly what the On Cloudultra Pro is crafted for. It's a flagship trail racing super shoe, lab tested and trail validated by elites at some of the biggest ultras in the world.

With enduring rebound that helps you feel fresher for longer, the Helion HF superfoam is also tuned for trail control. To enhance your surefooted experience, the CloudTec pods are cleverly designed to compress slightly more in the center than along the perimeter. This improves stability without having to widen the base excessively, which also helps you pick your landings with greater agility.

Adding propulsive pop to your strides is an embedded fiberglass Speedboard. Through athlete testing, fiberglass proved superior to carbon, especially on uphill sections. Coupled with a strong rocker shape, this powerful shoe helps keep your long-distance pace flowing swiftlyeasier and longer than ever. Finished with a hydrophobic leno weave upper and On's most advanced Missiongrip outsole ever, you'll feel dialed, confident, and ready to rock.

Step to the start line and turn your wildest ultra dreams into reality. The On Cloudultra Pro is built to propel you every step of the way, through the finish line and beyond.

What You'll Love:

  • Elite plated superfoam performance
  • On's most cutting-edge grip yet
  • High-stacked design that retains agility and stability

How We Measure Our Shoe Specs

  • We measure every shoe in-house to provide accurate and consistent details.

  • Weight

The weight is based on a Men's size 9 for Men's and Unisex shoes or Women's size 8 for Women's shoes. The weight listed is for a single shoe, including the laces.

  • Heel Stack

The heel stack refers to how high your heel sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Forefoot Stack

Forefoot stack refers to how high the ball of the foot sits above the ground when wearing shoes. Based on Men's size 9 as the standard.

  • Heel-toe Offset

Heel-toe offset (drop) is the difference in height between the heel stack and the forefoot stack. We use the number given to us by the brand.

How We Measure Shoe Fit

  • All measurements are based on Medium width.

  • Fit (width) options are Narrow - Snug - Average - Roomy - Wide.

  • Sizing (length) options are Short - True - Long. Note: fit is relative to the "average" running shoe.

  • We partner with SmartLast, a program by Heeluxe, to use advanced shoe-measuring technology, to provide objective measurements for toe box, midfoot, and heel widths as well as overall length.

A Better Prodigio Pro?I've ran in most of the trail "Supershoes" and so far these are top of the list. Nike Ultrafly lasted a few runs before returning, then I moved on the Agravic Speed Ultra. Those were definitely... polarizing... But I have over 300 miles on them and the midsole still feels alive. Finally I tried the Prodigio Pro, not exactly a supershoe, but highly regarded. Amazing on technical terrain and the fit is amazing, but everywhere else I find them dull. The On, however, feels like a better Prodigio Pro. More pop, very stable, great upper, and wonderful laces. More grip than they should have for sure. 84 miles in and I've ran everything from the technical trails of Pisgah Nat. Forest to flowy singletrack. With the exception of the most technical trails, I prefer them over all others. Personally I wish the midsole felt a little more alive and I wonder if the Peba-based midsole will last like the Adidas. Overall the best option out in my opinion.

Well Designed Trail ShoeIt's very clear ON took direct feedback from their pro runners. I wouldn't use these on anything too technical, but for most trail running these are great. The foam isn't too soft.....which was surprising given what shoe companies keep giving us. The price is a little too steep in my opinion. Should be around $185.

Top tierSolid trail super shoe, way more stable than other trail super shoes and a much better lockdown than I’ve experienced in most trail shoes.

high end, dedicated days, maybe not a trainerShoe is lignt, high quality, perfecto lugs - depth/ spacing, super upper fit - rad zonal mesh, 1 layer = no foot slop, and shoe feels stable. I kept this snoe in the living room only: comparing to Superblast 2..... upper is rad, a bit more generous, but no foot slop with thin socks... My size 11 mens is right on....SB2 just a bit closer in fit..... gaps in upper mesh will allow dry wild grass darts into your shoe - this will happen. Midsole feels fine, but it feels muted, toned down, doesnt feel like 260 dollars. Finally, the nylon plate is fairly flexible, but not particularly flexible at the metatarsals. For me, a fairly flexible metatarsal zone feels better on wiggly trails and is a must for steeper climbs. The outsole looks nice and light weight, no Everest climbing knobbies needed for TRAIL running. For me, for trail running on dry/ damp semi maintained trails, I believe the Superblast 2 is a better choice. Ultrapro is very very rad, but not at 260 .....
