My go to shorts! These have been my shorts of choice for many years. They are comfortable, the waist string being on the outside is nice, and the pockets are great for carrying stuff. I rarely need a vest unless I'm going really long. The back zippered pocket is big enough to hold an iPhone 13 mini.
My biggest complaint is not with Patagonia, but with Apple not producing mini iPhones anymore! Once I need to upgrade, it may be a tougher fit. Another complaint is the price: these were $70 the last time I bought them but are $85 now. Might be just enough to see if there's something of equal quality but cheaper next time I'm looking to buy.

Brief liner not goodIf it had a 3in boxer liner it would be good, but this liner will tear up your ground area after a few miles

lousy sizingI'm a true 29-30" waist and can barely squeeze into the Small which is supposedly the correct size. At least one size too small
Best trail shorts out thereThese have been my go-to short for long runs and races for a few years. I've done everything from a marathon PB to my first 100-miler in these bad boys and I love them. The pockets are really well designed and securely hold 2-3 gels in each without any bounce. Some have commented that they run a little smaller. For what it's worth, I am 5'10" 150 lbs with a 30 inch waist and the medium fits me perfectly. They aren't too snug around the waist and the liner keeps everything in place. Even after 12+ hour ultras, I have very little chafing. 5/5, would recommend!
Runs smallShorts are great, but run very small. I am 5’10” and 175 lbs and a medium is very tight all around. Can’t move up to a large because per size guide the waist would be like 4-5 sizes too big.
shmediumAt first I didn't like them because they are a bit on the small side, and the lining is extra snug on my behind, but they have grown on me, and best part I can put my iphone 13 mini in the outside side pouch with no bounce. Only issue is the back inside middle area of the waistband rubs on long runs.
